When Lisa’s dog Taya passed away in June from cancer, each day felt like something was missing. Little did she know that Ben would soon enter her life. When Lisa did an online search for a furry friend she was shocked and overwhelmed by just how many animals were homeless. Though she wished she could adopt them all, she knew this wasn’t possible. However, finding that one special pooch would at least help. Lisa searched everyday, sometimes twice. When she saw Ben, there was just something about his face that struck her. Though she looked at other dogs online, she found herself returning to Ben’s picture. One day she printed out her picture and hung it on her refrigerator, and that marked the end of Lisa’s search.

When she brought Ben home with her he was a little nervous. Gradually, he became accustomed to his new living quarters. Lisa found herself with new living quarters as well. For the first couple of nights she slept next to Ben’s cage—the sign of a true dog lover. It seems that Ben was worth the search and the sleepless nights. The unconditional love he gives to Lisa is unwavering. She loves to share snacks with him, and he loves to play soccer with her. When the time is right, Lisa would love to adopt a furry friend for Ben, from a shelter of course. Lisa is a great example of one who knows the importance of adopting, and the rewards have been tenfold for both of them.
