A lot to be thankful for
Two very different cats, each unique and special in their own way, but with one thing in common…..they both owe their lives to Shadow Cats Rescue. Little Blossom was found on the side of the road, badly injured after being hit by a car, and the people who stopped to help her contacted Shadow Cats. They took her in as they have done with so many others and gave her the care she needed to survive. I met Blossom the day I first came to volunteer, and soon she wound up coming home with me.
It wasn’t long before I found my life consumed with Shadow Cats, volunteering at the sanctuary and having my heart stolen by many dozens of little furry faces. My friends began to know me as “that cat guy”, so when a neighbor found a sickly looking little kitten in her garage one morning she knew just who to call. I knew that Shadow Cats and Central Texas Cat Hospital would open their arms to him, and it turned out that he would not have survived even one more day due to extreme dehydration and malnutrition. Between Dr. Smith’s care at the hospital, and Sheila Smith’s hourly feedings at home all night long for the first two nights, the little kitten we named Cairo began to respond and recover. Soon he wound up coming home with me too.
Most of the time when I think about Shadow Cats, the first thing that comes to mind is the sanctuary, and how lucky I am to have found them and get to share in the lives of so many amazing cats. But every day at home I’m also reminded of two of the biggest blessings that Shadow Cats has brought into my life - Blossom and Cairo. I can’t imagine my life without them…..or Shadow Cats!
