Puppy returned to her home...

My dearest forum family,

Another example of prayer at work, sort of.

This afternoon I got a call from a teenage girl saying they got one of my flyers in their mailbox and that they were missing their puppy.  She described the little pup to the tee.

Needless to say, we took the puppy, Harley, back to her owners.  They live about a half a mile from us and I am familiar with how they keep pets including a pony.  I had wanted better for this little girliepupper but that was not my decision to make.  At least she will be close by so I can sort of keep an eye on her.

If you have a few more prayers handy...ask that they take good care of Harley and feed her what she needs.  They have no excuse not to...I gave them 20 lbs. of food.

Much love, many prayers and infinite Hope,

Jabi (who is hurting and confused and doesn't know if she did the right thing after all)

What else could you have done, Jabi? It was the right thing to put out the flyers and once the girl contacted you returning the puppy was the only thing you could do. As you say you are close enough to keep an eye out for the pup. I kind of relate to how you feel. Our neighbors a couple of doors down have a really cute smaller dog who is an escape artist. We've returned her more than once when she got out of the yard. In fairness the family has tried to secure the fence, but the little dog is able to exploit any weakness she finds when she's left in the backyard all day. I've been tempted to disappear her too, but legally that's theft and my own animals would suffer if I ended up doing jail time. Your animals would too, and your primary responsibilty is to them.

Life is difficult sometimes, isn't it?

Dearest Ribs,

I know...I know you are exactly right.  And I agree with you 100 percent.  I just can't shake this feeling that I have returned this precious little baby to an unsafe situation and there was nothing I could do about it.

I just feel that even though I did the right thing...it feels wrong in every way possible.  Heaven help me if I ride by there tomorrow to take Mom to another Dr. appt. and find the little pupper in the highway again.  The next time it may not me Crawford and me who come upon her first.  I just pray she will be okay.

Thanks for your shoulder, Ribs.  That helps more than you can know.

Much love, many prayers and infinite Hope,

Jabi

You did do the right thing.  Thanks for giving them the food.  Maybe someone just had to tell they had to feed her.

Many prayers for Harley that she grows up healthy and happy.

Thank you for everything, your definately a Angel.

Jabi,

You posted the flyers, the girl id, so you had to return the pup.

The food will hopefully help them take better care of Harley.

Kay

I just pray she will be okay.

And we know that prayer can work miracles, don't we? The little one has already had one miracle when you saved her from the road. Hopefully she will have another and that the girl will also learn from the experience and keep her safe.

At any rate, you did do the right thing. Keep reminding yourself of that!

Okay, I'm going to say something others might not want to hear, but after doing the right thing (and it was the right thing) IF you see that Harley is once again in danger, I would have no problems keeping her. I'm not suggesting kidnapping her. But if you rescue her again, I sure wouldn't take her back.

Thanks everyone for your support.  I have really struggled with this choice.  And Dottie...You didn't say anything I hadn't already thought.  It's just that every time we go somewhere, we go by this house, and my fear is that I will see little Harley out on the highway, but it will be too late to save her again.

I have, though, come to the conclusion that it could be worse.  It could have been an overtly abusive family, which it is not.  They just don't seem to have much sense, and I pray they have learned their lesson this time.

Many years ago, Jabi, my older daughter asked me "Why does the rightest thing feel like the wrongest?".  I still don't have any answer to it but the one I gave her; "Once we know the 'rightest" we couldn't live happily if we did the 'wrongest' ".... but it's sometimes so very hard, isn't it?

I'm glad that Harley is back home, and I've got a feeling that with all the prayers that are surrounding him that he'll grow up and be the dog that he is meant to be..... thanks to you and Crawford.  Well-done, my friends.

Huggles and prayers
