Well, I'm slowly finding my way around here. Many on CC know Sandy, my Bearded Dragon. He crossed Fri. evening without warning. He would have been 7 years old in August. He was a really neat pet. He knew his name and liked to watch TV. He will be missed.
Nora
Nora, I'm so sorry. I've added him to the Bridgelist for next Monday's Ceremony. It's always such a shock when there's no warning, isn't it? And, like with humans, furkids don't have to meet any particular "criteria" to be good pets and companions, or to give love in their own ways. It's like the difference between Sox and my other kitties over the years. Sox was not a "cuddle cat", she did not like to be held and would not usually sit on our knees. But when we came in, she met us with long extended conversations and we were supposed to carry our end of the "talk". But I never doubted that she loved us as much as any or the others.
Gentle huggles and prayers

I am sorry you lost your Sandy... I thought it was cool you had a "dragon" :)
Do they normally live a long life?? I know that he had a great home with you and though its hard, I think that it was quick and he did not suffer.. might be able to bring you some comfort...:)
Sending you hugs!!
J!
Thanks Marf. Its hard for those not familiar with reptiles to understand they can be loving kids too. I got Sandy as a tiny hatchling and it was amazing to watch him grow and see his emerging personality. He always liked TV and seemed especially fond of The Crocidile Hunter on Animal Planet. I wondered if he knew these animals were Aussies like him. He was a great pet and we will all miss him a lot.

I believe I once read they can live 12 to 15 years, but I'm not sure. He was fun and I really enjoyed him. Reptiles are the hardest of animals to know when something is wrong. By the time symptoms show up, its usually too late. Sandy never stopped eating and just seemed his normal self prior to finding him dead.
God Speed Sandy!

Nora,
I am so sorry for your loss of Sandy. All creatures, great and small, endear themselves to us. Think of how he is spending his time now, on a warm rock in the sunshine, waiting until you meet again.
Warm thoughts and prayers,
MaryLou
I'm sorry, Nora. I've never lived with a reptile, but I did have three tree frogs many years ago. They were absolutely delightful little friends, and I cried buckets when one by one they crossed the Bridge. I didn't do my "homework" before I brought them home, but later I did some reading and learned that they seldom live longer than three years. :-(
Sandy sounds like a totally delightful creature, and I'm sure he's waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge, probably snuggling with an angel watching TV.
Hugs
Marion
Thanks for you kind posts NurseMary and Marion. Sandy was delightful. When someone voices an interest in getting a lizard, I always reccogment a Beardie. They are gentle and low maintainence.
Marion, maybe Sandy is hanging with Steve Irwin. He liked watching him on TV. I can just hear Steve's welcome to Sandy. "Aren't you a little beauty!"
I was very sorry to read that CC had passed. It is hard with no warning, but as I recently found out it is still hard with warning. I do hope that it was fast and he felt not pain. You both will be in my thoughts.
Antonia
I totally understand what you are saying. I've had several unexpecteds lately, but I also have my Basenji, Nila, who has cancer which is getting closer to terminal.
Reptiles are very hard to read, but I don't believe he felt pain. He ate and did all his usual things right to the end. From what I read, they can live about 10 years and he would have turned 7 next month.
Thanks for your kind thoughts.
