Are you an experienced volunteer?
The animals at the Pets Alive sanctuary in Middletown, NY could really use your help!

As you’ll have heard by now, Best Friends is on the scene at Pets Alive, and we’re working 'round the clock to care for more than 500 dogs and cats, along with retired carriage horses, farm animals, exotic birds and others.

Many of the animals at Pets Alive are older, have special needs or require special care. Sara Whalen, the founder and director of the sanctuary, recently passed away after a long illness. She’d worked tirelessly for the animals, but during her illness, things had deteriorated, and Sara’s board asked Best Friends if we could step in to help.

Best Friends has agreed to operate the Pets Alive sanctuary for the next three months. And we need all the help we can get!

In particular, we need:

* Volunteers with previous experience in an animal shelter environment to work in the various animal care areas.

* Skilled electricians, plumbers and carpenters.

* Volunteers with experience in bathing and grooming, training, T-Touch, adoption counseling, and office work.

* Anyone who can do some of the heavy lifting and manual labor.

Here’s the fine print: Volunteers are responsible for their own food and lodging, and must have reliable transportation. And all animal care volunteers will be required to attend an orientation session offered on Saturdays prior to working with animals.

If you can come on over, it will be a huge help.

For more information, about volunteering with the Helping Pets Alive project, please contact tammyh@bestfriends.org

We welcome volunteers and could really use the support! Find out more information on volunteering here.

If you can’t volunteer but want to support the wonderful animals at Pets Alive, we welcome donations, large and small. It is only with your support that we can provide these animals with the life they deserve.

You can donate to the Pets Alive Emergency Support Fund c/o Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741 or click here.

Some of the dogs and cats are already available for adoption! You can view a partial list by clicking here. Our adoption applications are also available here.

Thanks so much,

The Best Friends team at Pets Alive

I'll add him to my list! Gee, I hope I have time to actually do some volunteer work with all the mushes I've been asked to give. Right now mushes planned for Jerry Sad Eyes, Abe, Danny, Robert the piggie and Elmo. Any other requests?

Our agency has an office in Middletown. I can post your appeal for help on our office intranet bulletin board if you like. I would like to help if I can, also. I live about 90 mins. from Middletown and work 45 mins. from there. Let's see what we can do to give BF a boost. And I'd love to meet the folks I admire so much!
