HiJinx Report 4: Big dog! Chipmunk!
{Editor's note: Addie would like everyone to know that she is a dignified lady from a pedigreed background and would be 80 if she were a human, so a little respect, please before you snort milk out your nose at this story).

We had a visitor to the office last Thursday and Friday: a rather chunky chocolate Lab named Addie. She snurfled around a bit by Shelley’s desk, but Jinx took it in stride, putting on his Buddha face (“I’m above it all”).

So, we all settled in and Shelley and I were soon tapping away at our computers. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something streak across the floor, toward Shelley’s desk, followed closely by a big brown blob that turned out to be Addie. “Wow!” I said to Shelley. “I didn’t think she could move that fast.”

Then, the critter – which turned out to be a chipmunk – went flying in the other direction, with Beignet, Shelley’s poodle, in hot pursuit. I glanced at Jinx, thinking he would be stressed out by all this doggie zooming. Nope. Still the Buddha face. (“I refuse to be a part of this craziness.”)

After the chipmunk took a few more turns around the room, I called our Wild Friends department and they sent over our wildlife rehabber, Carmen, with a big net. “Uh, oh. Jinx is really not going to like this,” I thought.

We vacated the office so Carmen could do her thing. Boy, she’s good! Within five minutes, she had netted the chipmunk and barely disturbed Jinx. (Carmen will release the chipmunk back outside.) Shelley and I and the two dogs trooped back into the office and there was Jinx lying serenely on his bed. All of us were way more excited by this little adventure than Jinx was. Back to work …

Do you think you have the right stuff to provide our hero cat with the home he deserves? Can you see past the bluff and swagger to see that he's a very scared boy looking for safety, security and love? Can you see the inner kitten in Jinx?

What fun you guys have in your office! How exactly does a chipmunk get into your office?

Yes, Jinxie just needs to be wrapped up in a security blanket of a family before he shows his "softer" side!
