The HiJinx Report 2: The Big Swap
The old switcheroo: Shelley and I decided to switch desks today so she could work with Jinxy a little more. As a veteran of the Great Kitty Rescue, Shelley is a cat socializer extraordinaire, whereas I have no experience whatsoever in this department and, admittedly, am even a bit squeamish about it. I’m cool with having Jinx in the office, but I want to leave the socialization process to a professional (i.e., don’t try this at home).

When we brought Jinx into the office, as Murphy’s Law dictates, Jinx decided his safe place was on MY desk, scrunched between my computer and printer, inches from my mouse hand. As I mentioned in the previous post, there was an awful lot of grumbling and growling when the phone rang, and just in general, too. But, Jinx wasn’t about to leave his favorite spot, so I came up with the brilliant idea of switching desks.

So, today was the big day: We recruited Shelley’s husband, David, to help us out with the tangle of computer cables and wires (otherwise, we would still be there, in the wee hours of the morning, scratching our heads, saying, “Where does this one go?”). Jinx was a tad miffed that everything was changing again, but it’s all good. It only took about 15 minutes to do the transfer and Jinx is once again hunkered down in his chosen spot.

He doled out a few glares, of course, but I think the key phrase here is (as the current corporate lingo goes) “moving forward …” Moving forward, then, this is going to be the cat’s meow. Shelley has a soft spot for Jinx: She took care of him in Pahrump and held his paw as he recovered from surgery on his nose to remove the cancer. She even tells me that what I perceive as a glare is his soft look (hmmm … I’d hate to see the hard stare).

Stay tuned for the next HiJinx Report.

Shelley is indeed the "Cat Whisperer" extraordinaire! I am sure that Jinx will mellow and get used to the routine in his new office.

One of my cats specializes in filing and shredding, standing between the keyboard and monitor, sleeping on the cordless phone (soundly enough not to want to move if it rings) - he is so helpful!

I am sure Jinx will find his favorite things to do given a little time...

Oh Mary, what a great idea! I'm glad you could work it out. I know Jinx made you just a tiny bit on edge sitting that close to you.

And you are SO right, anyone who has been in their company knows that Shelley has a SUPER soft spot for Jinx.

His glare is all attitude and his hiss and low growl are his way of talking, honestly! Jinx has never struck out - he knows his growl and hiss intimidates...but we know that it is just a facade.

Can't wait for the next HiJinx Report!

OK, I have a HUGE soft spot for the grumpy ones. And Jinx is too cute with that look on his face!!!

Thanks for going the extra mile for this boy. You'll be hugging him in no time, and he'll be tickling you with his whiskers!!

Office life sounds wonderful for Jinx but surely there must be a special home of his own out there somewhere? Is there anyone experienced with Jinxy type cats (all bravado- he just needs more time) who might be reading this that does not have a houseful of cats or that might have a special spot for him? I would love to see him in his own home loved and pampered by his own person AND all of us too. If you know of a special home in your network of friends that could handle Jinx and give him the space, time and care he needs, will you forward his story to them? I know his family is out there, they just don't realize he is theirs yet.

What do you mean, "don't try this at home"? Good thing Ginseng's snoozing right now and not reading this over my shoulder!
