Current wish list for Miss Sherry's Finishing School for Felines
Joker has a wish list he'd like you to consider on behalf of him and his current and future classmates.

BTW do you remember when Joker used to yell and be the juvenile delinquent (see Exhibit A at the bottom of this entry), doing everything he could to incite riots and always shoveled out his litter pan? Well, if you can fit it into your schedule, please come see what a cutie he is turning into. Joker hasn't graduated yet but he is very happy in the small playroom and can actually be quiet. But we digress.

Here's the current needs at Miss Sherry's Finishing School for Felines. Be sure to have your donation labeled "Miss Sherry's Finishing School for Felines/Rescue Village/Yurts."

1. Ba-Da-Beam, a battery operated laser toy. Other interactive toys that challenge the kitties to think would be appreciated as well.

2. Baby wipes

3. Bottled water for the volunteers and staff

4. Feline Greenies treats (www.DrsFosterSmith.com)

5. RV or with functioning air conditioner so more kitties can go on sleepovers

6. Sugar Daddy and/or Mama Deep Pockets to donate permanent building for the school :-) Gotta dream the big dreams :-)

And now, Exhibit A of the way Joker was during his first classes.

Joker looks like a black and white cougar . . . and not a happy cougar. ; ) Atta boy, Joker! We like you with your ears up.

Just one more reason I don't want to be a little red monkey doll.

Dream big ... I like it. Are the Greenies just for my girlfriend Ginseng? Or will she share with the others?

Now, you have got to stop posting the old unflattering Joker photos. Although he still can act like a punk now and again, he has moved beyond that terrified, hissing, spitting, striking phase. I had quite a few lovely petting sessions with him last week - he really is turning into quite a sweet boy. He's not as cuddly as Paprika ... yet. But he is moving through his classes and doing very well.

Here he is after one of our classroom sessions. He is sitting on a bed on the ledge between two cages - look how peaceful and calm.

I didn't know Ginseng liked Greenies! When was this discovery made? Had I known, I would have been bribing her left and right last time I visited...

Peter, since the answer is a bit long winded, I've made a blog posting about this amazing discovery here:

A short update from Pahrump (Nye County) Justice Court - the arraignment of FLOCK that was scheduled for July 28 was postponned, with no new date yet set.

Corinne: You say Joker is "not as cuddly as Paprika" Is that THE Paprika you are talking about? Paprika and cuddly in the same sentence? . . . another miracle in the magic yurts.

Yes indeed it is THE Paprika who now will do just about anything to be petted! She rolls and presents her belly (and she is not trying to sucker you in). She flirts!

Gee, I wonder if the finishing school works ? :-) :-) :-)

"Gee, I wonder if the finishing school works ? :-) :-) :-)

No doubt in my mind.

Incidently, I wrote to Dr. Frank a couple of weeks ago, trying to get a feel for his research into the Finishing School techniques. It seems like there's so much on the Vick Dogs but nothing anymore on the Pahrump kitties. I thought maybe not enough people filled out their questionnaires.

Turns out he got 80 back, which he says is a decent number. The problem, as he explains it, is that all of that information is useless without a control population and he has been unable to attract enough people willing to fill out such a detailed questionnaire about their "normal" cats.

Let's all put on our thinking caps and see if we can scare him up a control group, shall we?

Hey Carrie, what are you talking about? This is the first I've heard about any questionnaire ...

Same her e-- I have a Pahrump kitty but never got a questionnaire. . . . who is it for?

I guess I thought all adopters got one. Maybe it was just the adopters of the super shy kitties? I got mine back in April. It was very lengthy with lots of "excercises" to try with your Pahrump kitty and scales to record their reactions. I wasn't at a point with Ember that we could really do the excercises so I just wrote to Dr. Frank with how things were going.

I recently wrote back to see how the research was going. Mostly because, though I am absolutely thrilled (as I said below) with all that's being learned from the Vick dogs, I am also interested in what's being learned from the Finishing School.

It kind of sounds like the research has been scrapped but I don't know that for sure.
