White-toothed wonders
Ever try giving a dental to a cat who’d sooner dive under a crate than look at you? It’s not easy, that’s for sure. Add the fact that there were a whole lot of cats from the Great Kitty Rescue to start with, and it’s no wonder the dentals have taken some time to get through.
Lately, though, the dentals have finally been going a bit easier. Any guesses why? One big reason is because Best Friends’ Miss Sherry’s Feline Finishing School, where shy cats are learning to relax, is really working its magic! After months of patient effort, the cats are finally willing to sit still for the dentist (vet techs). Wow, what a difference.
And the dentals are not the only sign of progress for these cats. The school has been hopping in many areas, including successful students finding homes.
Jasper, in fact, just found a home in California. Jasper is a black tabby who was chosen to be class president back when the school began. He’s the 13th adoption from the group (Well, he's going to a 'possibly permanent' foster home -- close enough!) You know, there’s something cool about a black cat being a lucky number 13, don’t you think? Twice the good luck!
Jasper used to be so shy he’d hide in the corner when anybody new approached. Now he’s a certifiable lap cat in every way. He also used to be skinny and sick, with everything from upper respiratory infections to digestive problems. All that is gone now. He looks like a movie star and couldn’t be happier to have a home.
It’s the same with so many of the cats from the Great Kitty Rescue. Cats who used to be afraid are now laid back and paying bribes for ear scratches. Other cats who used to be skinny have signed up for the good life and, as a result, have filled in around the midsection (in some cases, a little too much!). It’s amazing how far they’ve come.
There’s only one big problem left to tackle. Who’s going to fill Jasper’s shoes as the next class president? That cat will have quite the legacy to live up to!
