Olga tumbles for you
Olga was one of the unpettable ones. Here is video proof that the techniques developed for cat socialization during the Great Kitty Rescue work. See
Olga tumbles for you on YouTube.
Her adopter, Jerry and Linda Bell, started as volunteers and then were contract employees for the rescue effort in Pahrump. They were with us through the last day and are still very much part of the effort.
Jerry said:
"As to how I got Olga to melt - well, just lots of time and patience. She really wasn't food motivated, except she would take cheese once in a while, and she did not like the wand at all.
"So it was bare hand petting in the cage. And the cage was definitely necessary. After the cage became her safety zone, petting got pretty easy.
"Once we brought her home, the transition from cage to cat tower in our walk in closet only took about two weeks. The cat tower then became her place of safety.
"Now she roams the house, and we can pet her in every room if we approach slowly at her level on the floor, and that means crawling.
"McKenzie gave her the name Olga because she is quite the gymnast. She does not like to be lower than people. In fact, she can frequently be found on our 20 ft. high pot shelves peering down on us.
"Olga still does not like to be held and is very vocal about it, but she does not swat or bite, so we keep working on it. In the meantime, we are beginning to see her sitting on the bed at our feet when we wake up in the morning (our king-size bed sometimes gets crowded)."
