Meet the Kitties of Cat House # 2
Volunteer Gilla Gidlow takes us with her into Cat House #2 so we can meet the cats she photographed:
Karen, a Best Friends employee, has been in Pahrump for three months. She has been working hard, 10 hours a day, six days a week and there is a weariness about her. Things are slowing down a bit and Karen even gave up one of her buildings. She still looks after Cat House # 1 and 2. Stepping into the buildings, the tiredness disappears and the love for the work and cats lights up Karen’s face. She still has her work cut out as these two buildings have a lot of shy cats that need to learn that kindness and love can come from people.
Rollie This handsome boy has made such strides in only a week. Karen thought that Rollie was very close to coming around and asked me to spend time with him. In spite of the hissy protest of Matrix (aka: Hiss) who Rollie had cuddled up with.

I started to stroke this handsome white tabby and he endured my pettting and chatter. During that day I kept coming back to him and, especially after he had left Matrix’s side, he seemed to even enjoy the cuddles. Karen spent lots of time with him during the next week and I made a point of visiting with him twice more. The next Sunday, exactly a week after my first visit I cleaned Cat House # 2 again and what a difference. Rollie looked quite confident and visited with lots of cats and loved me touching him. He even played on the top shelf and had a ball. Like all cats he batted the toys down to the floor and then looked at me as if to say, “Well pick them up so I can play more.”
Like a good human I picked them all up and we repeated the routine until he had had enough. When Rollie settled, he had such a peaceful expression on his face and just loved my touching him. This sweetheart will make a wonderful companion for cats and humans in a quiet home.
Kenya and Kaiser Kenya and Kaiser are two very loving and sweet cats with such big names. Physically they couldn’t be more different. Kenya
(Pictured above) is a big, sleek and very handsome black fellow and Kaiser is a petite long-haired Tuxedo boy.

Both are so loving and gregarious. They are never more than an arms length away. I am telling you about them together, because my favorite encounter with them took place sitting in front of the shelves. Kenya had settled on the higher one, while Kaiser made himself comfortable in a round bed on the lower shelf. I petted with them both and it all turned into a cuddle fest. Kenya would come and give me kisses between strokes; then Kaiser demanded all my attention and rubbed against my face. While I was sitting there it occurred to me why I thought the names where so appropriate . Kenya - his heart as big as a country and Kaiser
(Pictured right) - he isn’t just a king of cats, but a kaiser or emperor!
Cadillac She
(Pictured above) is such a beautiful torbie - a mix between a tabby and a calico. Gorgeous green eyes look out from the prettiest face. This lover girl is confident, sweet and very loving and walks around like she owns the place. She would be perfect in any loving home.
Emily and Demi Emily
(Pictured above), a lovely Calico, and Demi, a grey Tabby, are two little ladies, who spend their time on the top shelf. Both are still very cautious of people, but will let you touch them while they look at you with great suspicion. Emily will hiss when she has had enough and sometimes stomp her front foot. Demi never hisses but slowly moves away. We will keep working on them, but I think both will come around with time.
Milagro Milagrois
(Pictured above in the main story image) a beautiful buff tabby. Right now he’s on the verge of trusting. He settled in a cube bed and I cuddled with him and he quite enjoyed it. I kept coming back and he stayed in the bed. I will tell you more about this gorgeous boy in the future.
