Paws from Pahrump: Cat Adoption Day - news release
Saturday's Las Vegas event aims to find homes for 75 cats

posted by Kate Schnepel, Best Friends

More than 100 deserving cats from the FLOCK facility in Pahrump are ready to use their feline wiles to win the hearts of Las Vegas residents this weekend.

The Paws from Pahrump – Cat Adoption Day has a goal of finding homes for at least 75 of the cats rescued from the FLOCK facility. The event is happening at the Summerlin PetSmart (9775 W. Charleston Blvd.) on Saturday, September 8 from 11am to 6pm.

These kitties are some of the 600+ cats that were surrendered to Nye County Animal Control last month. The national animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal Society was brought in to turn the sad situation around, and to do right by the cats.

“We are hopeful that this weekend’s event will help many of these incredible cats find the home they’ve been dreaming of, “ said Nikki Sharp, Campaigns Manager for Best Friends. “They have been through so much, and it’s time for them to be spoiled with love and attention. We encourage anyone with a big heart and a cat-friendly home to come in and find a companion.”

People can fill out their adoption application online, have it screened and approved prior to coming to PetSmart to meet the kitties Saturday. Please go to http://network.bestfriends.org/nyecounty/news/ and click on the adoption tab to fill out the application.

Can’t adopt? Volunteers are needed to help with the event, as well as on the site at the Nye County Cat Rescue, 2171. S. Bond in Pahrump. To volunteer, please contact: Tiffani Hill at tiffanih@bestfriends.org or 805-698-5959.

Good luck to all the kitties. Hope you all find your forever homes! Wish I could be there to help.

Christine, how's Noah doing?

Oh Lilly,
You have such a beautiful face and adoring eyes despite what has been done to you. I am going to miss seeing you on the web. I know you will be the hit of the adoption event and one of the first to be adopted. I fell for you hard and I know that your new family is out there waiting for you. So go with those pretty little tufts of fur on your face sticking straight out and make those eyes shine like diamonds. I would love to give you a home but I know that I'm not the only one. I love you my darling. Have the happy, safe and comfortable life that you deserve. I miss you already. Hugs and kisses to all of you!

Lilly my sweet little girl, I was sorry I could not get you adopted on August 11th even though I tried so hard, but I will have to try harder on Sept. 8th for you are so adorable and so loving and so cuddly and so snuggly and you are definitely a beauty and will you deserve a loving home and someone to bestow all your love upon once again. See you on Saturday my sweetie and can't wait to hold you and cuddle you again.

I am just thinking of the logistics of this adoption event! Wow! Catching, transporting to Las Vegas, having their info cards... for 100! Kudos to all the volunteers and staff for their hard work and planning that go into this event being the success that we all know it will be!

Irene, you go girl and get Lilly the home she deserves! Please give her plenty of snuggles and cuddles for me too!

Judy, thank you for asking, Noah is still up and down. There appear to be some issues with his previous surgery. I took him to a different vet yesterday and waiting for a report to day..please keep praying. He is home and doing OK, but there are issues!

I'm so excited!!! I'm in Minnesota - but Saturday is Sept. 8th - which is my 60th birthday - and I couldn't get a better "present" from BF than to know that a super-adoption event is happening for the beloved kitties from Pahrump!!!! YAY!! I'll be there in spirit, guys - kickin' it at 60 and cheering you all on - humans and critters - prayers for a stupendously successful adoption day - and blessings and hugs to one and all!!! :)

I will do my absolutely best to get as many babies as I can adopted on Saturday just like before. And Cheryl I will kiss and give hugs and extra pets for you to each baby as I know you can't be there. E-mail me personally and let me know what is happening with Noah please. And everyone says prayers that we adopt out many many beautiful babies, as it just breaks my heart to see them in Pahrump when they should be living on the lap of luxury with some lucky people to call their own. So many gorgeous cats that are so forgiving to what happened to them and all they want is to give love and get a little in return as they rightfully deserve. it was not there fault they ended up here. Please everyone open your home to one of these beautiful babies. Even if you are in another state BF will make arrangements to get them to you.

This is great news! We will be there to say "hi" to the kitties. I'm getting ready to pass this release around at work, too. I know there are bunches of great homes out there for these cats! Thanks again Best Friends for all you do to help animals!

Anyone know what the adoption fee for these cats are? I am looking to possibly get a pair, but want to be prepared.

Posted 7 Sep 2007 12:48 PM by czimmer671
Deb27, I believe that Best Friends is still waiving the adoption fee. They are highly recommending that adopters take their new pets to their own vets as soon as possible. This is because, despite the medical care given to the cats by Best Friends, vaccines, FIV and FELV tests and more, these little guys have been living as part of a colony. To be sure of their perfect health, an exam post adoption is very important. This would not be necessary for a sanctuary cat as they are housed in facilities designed for their health and safety.

I hope you enjoy the event and find 2 beauties to love forever! FYI, it would speed things up for you and the staff at the event if you filled out a application onine. Just a suggestion! Thank you for adopting!

It is so wonderful to see the excitement grow. Best wishes to all the kitties, I especially hope those that were not adopted at the first one do not get passed by again and that people really consider the love of an FIV/FELV kitty. And for those who may not find the right match this time there are 5 kitty kubbies and 5 beds on the way for peaceful dreams. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow. Sending prayers and wishes all the way from Virginia.

Deb27, I wish you all the best in finding your perfect pair of kitties. I helped with scooping the group up last night that is going... there are so many nifty cats in that bunch. Puddin and Centry and Creed and Cinders... Cinders is a punk kid but such a love. He'd follow me all over the yard while watering. Creed is just a big lug, he loves attention and is forever jumping up on people's shoulders or backs if they bend over... Puddin is a total brat but incredibly cute about it... adolescents! Centry is just a big playful sweety... I could go on, but you get the idea. They're just the most fantastic bunch of kitties and they have been through hell on earth, literally, and I'm praying that they each find their most perfect home this weekend. It is what they deserve. And if you're lucky enough and smart enough to be one of those homes, then I am both happy for you and grateful to you. Please keep us posted!

I've been trying to spread the word by taking fliers and handing them out to the shopping places by my house. Help spread ther word, we don't have much time left!!!

I know PetSmart still had a ton of really really gorgeous fliers just sitting there. I can't tell you enough how many people I've run into have no idea it was going on nor anything about the rescue. Those of you who live near by, grab a few and give them out!

After spending a few days with the wonderful kitties of Pahrump I headed to Kanab to train the groomers up here at the Sanctuary when it came time to leave I couldn't leave empty handed so a sweet orange and white kitty named Elmer came with me. Elmer is now staying with me at the Shiloh Inn here in Kanab & is just loving his new digs. Elmer sleeps on my head and drinks out of a water glass instead of his water bowl. Elmers favorite cat treats are the Chicken Temptations. I wish for every kitty out at Pahrump a loving forever home and so does Elmer.

Kittychump since we will be at the adoption tomorrow just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. Can't wait until tomorrow to see my babies again (as I call them all my boys and girls when I am there) and kiss their sweet head and give them love and help to get them adopted out. We put so many fliers out I hope it worked.

Posted 8 Sep 2007 11:27 PM by nutmegger
I read on another page that Lilly (pictured above) was adopted today. See Lilly?? I told you that you wouldnt be going back to the desert!! I also am dying to know who went home!

Posted 8 Sep 2007 11:36 PM by Nevada10
I think we adopted out approximately 36 babies today and they decided to stay another day at Petsmart so hopefully more babies will get adopted out and the truck will go back empty, Also note to CZimmer well I got Lilly adopted out as promised and what is better she went with one of the new volunteers that I know someone I know so that I know she will have lots of love and a good home, I gave Lilly extra extra kisses for you today and I am so happy for her, and thank you Tracy you are a gem. I hope the rest of these beautiful babies find their forever homes tomorrow. Good news in a few weeks they are having two more adoptions at two of the local casinos, one in Henderson and in here in North Las Vegas, and then at the end of October again at the Pahrump Nugget Casino. Everyone worked real hard today and all the babies got lots of tender loving care and pampering from us volunteers. Pictures to be posted soon I imagine, Thank you all wonderful people who took these lovely babies home today,
