National Pit Bull Awareness Day 10/20
Love Those Bullies!

SAT, OCT 20 is National Pit Bull AwarenessDay

“Rachel Ray, Jon Stewart, Jessica Alba, Michael J. Fox,
Jessica Biel, Frankie Muniz, Alicia Silverstone, Linda Blair, Rosie
Perez, Orlando Bloom, James Caan, Jesse James, Vin Diesel or
Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson. They all own Pit bulls.
Ask anyone who has ever owned a Pitbull and they will likely
tell you that they will never own another breed. They are
loving, snuggly, silly, clowns. They are smart and tenacious.
They love to learn new things. They make such an emotional
connection with their owners, and their loyalty is beyond
words. There is just nothing like a Pitbull.”

Pit Bull is the name given to the following breeds: American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It also refers to mixes of these breeds and often dogs who have some pit in their genetic makeup.

According to Pit bull 101 on the Hello Bully website “more than 25 percent of Bullies in rescues and shelters are pure-bred, the remainder are the result of accidental breeding, puppy mills, and irresponsible Pit bull “enthusiasts.”

Why is there so much controversy over Pits and Pit mixes? Pit bulls need owners who are responsible and understand the need and temperament of this lovable strong breed. Most of the time when a dog is not behaving, it is not a matter of a “bad “ dog but an unaware or uncaring owner who has not properly socialized his or her pet or does not understand what a pit needs to be a well mannered responsible citizen in the human and animal community.

It is time to dispel the ignorance and realities around this breed and teach responsible pet ownership A pit needs an owner who is willing to show positive leadership and spend time training their pooch. A pit may not be the right dog for you, but ignorance is not a reason to not adopt or ban a breed. Education is the Key

In Tennessee, Ohio, Florida, New Jersey, Alabama and Georgia and other states you can participate in activities to promote pit bull awareness on October 20, 2007. You can participate in candlelight vigils, educational workshops, rallies for bullys, BBQs and meet people who love and are knowledgeable about the breed.

“It’s time to show the world that all pit bull owners ARE NOT alike, and that responsible pit bull owners are no longer willing to sit back and be judged by the image set by the visible minority of irresponsible owners. It will take time to reverse the damage already done, but together, we can change the image bestowed upon our dogs (and their owners)!”
