Meatball Makes the Big Time!
New Children’s Book Features Many of the Lodge Dogs
In former Lodge Caregiver Nola Kelsey’s new book for kids, the Lodges' biggest clown, Meatball, landed a starring role teaching kids lessons about patience and “aggressive dogs.” Ms. Martha also landed herself a supporting role and many of the other Lodge pups landed spots in the photo layout.
In fact, the book is quite a Lodge collaboration. Volunteers Gerry and Kelly are shown working with green-collar angels, volunteer Jeanne M. was the editor and a motivational force for the book, and her husband Robin S. provided input and insight throughout the project.
Let’s Go Visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary just landed on Amazon’s sales pages on Jan. 12. Note: The pages Published Description is still being organized. “They always start out messy,” Kelsey says. The book will be working into the standard bookstore distribution channels over the next few weeks. The ISBN is 978-0-980-2323-0-1

Let’s Go Visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is designed to be read aloud in the home, library, or classroom settings. The book encourages conversations with children about kindness to animals and responsible pet ownership. Infused with humor, the book is also packed full of large, colorful photos of the animals of Best Friends. Kids ages 8 to 108 will learn something from this book.
In addition to Lodge Dogs, many of the dogs from Dogtown Heights, especially Nola’s treasured favorites, the Lebanon Dogs, show up in the pages of
Let’s Go Visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. In fact, the book covers the animals from every area of Best Friends as it traces the route taken by visitors on a Best Friends tour. Horse Haven, Bunny House, Feathered Friends, Cat World and Dogtown all share the spotlight.
So what is Nola’s biggest hope for the project? “I’d like to be selfless and say educating tomorrow's generation about responsible pet ownership, but the selfish side of me wants a loving home for every animal in the book, including big, huggable Meatball.”
Until the book details on the Amazon page are straightened up, anyone with questions is welcome to contact Nola at her email nola@nolakelsey.com. And remember, you can add your reviews of the book (good or bad) and your photos (good or bad) to many of online stores over the next few months. Then the effort to get the dogs even more attention will truly be a collaboration by us all.
