Layla...they don't make them any sweeter than this girl. She loves people, although she can be a bit timid at first until she trusts you. Layla does not, however, care for other dogs and is very reactive around other dogs. She does live very peaceful with the handsome Reuben on one side of her run and the equally charming Orlando on the other.

How is this beautiful dog doing these days? Is she still between Orlando and Reuben, and are they still good neighbors?
When I saw Layla, she was in between Spuds and Oscar. She seems like a very, very sweet dog. Later, I found out she was a Vicktory dog!
I loved my stay at BF, but I was confused by one thing. I noticed that Layla and the other Vicktory dogs up at the Lodges (such as Tugs and Oscar) only get walked about once a week. I thought I read somewhere that the Vicktory dogs got walks every day. Maybe I read wrong! Is there something medically wrong with the dogs, so they can't be walked very often? I should have asked the caregivers, but I hated to bother them! Is it okay if I send the Vicktory dogs packages of treats and toys? I look forward to hearing from anyone about this. THANK YOU!!

I'm not sure you are counting all the time they spend with trainers. As part of their rehabilitation, they get a lot of specialized attention and training.
You can send packages to any of the dogs at the Lodges by putting it to their attention on the label and they should get it.

When the Vicktory dogs were over at the Clubhouse where they originally lived, they did get daily walks, etc. as part of the rehabilitation process (and because they lived in smaller runs). Once the dogs are moved into the general population, they don't get the same amount of one on one time that they did before, but they do live in bigger runs, see more people, etc.
As for treats and toys, they would love them. Most of the Vicktory dogs love to tear apart their toys, so they don't last long, and have to be replaced often. Soft, smelly treats, tend to be favorites for most of them. :)
Thank you both for answering my questions about sending toys and treats! Layla's package went out today, addressed to Hook at the Lodges.
Thank you also, Hook, for explaining the situation to me (and others) about the rehabilitation process of the Vicktory dogs. I wish...well, I wish the process that went on at the Clubhouse could have continued at the Lodges (daily walks, etc.). But the Lodges is a world of its own!
Thank you, again, for answering my questions. I plan on sending one package of goodies a week to various Lodge dogs. After Layla, Spuds is next!
So sweet Babycakes, can I have you add Tina Louise to that care package list :))) ???
Also, Amy will probably respond, but Amy (Hook) isn't at the Lodges anymore :( She has just moved, however, your packages shouldn't have any trouble finding their way to the doggies!
If you direct your package to the Lodges it will get there. I would then include a note inside the box detailing which dogs you are sending which items to.
The Lodge caregivers have requested that I post here regarding easy-walk harnesses. Several of our Lodge dogs, including Layla, would benefit greatily if they were walked with an easy-walk harness. Isolde (Gift Store Manager) also recognizes this need, and has ordered several easy-walk harnesses that are now available at BF's gift shop. Isolde and the Lodge caregivers have this request: Would any of you be willilng to buy an easy-walk harness for one of the Lodge dogs that need one? You say, YES. Great! Here are the list of dogs that would benefit from the harnesses:
Layla (size30), Judge (size 28), Lacey (size 30), Lilly (size32), Annnie (size 34), Coconut (size 30), and Hera (size 32). If you would like to purchase a harness for one of these dogs (each harness cost $19.45) either call the Welcome Center's Gift Shop (435 644 2001, ext 4144) or email Isolde at Isoldez@bestfriends.org. Tell them which dog you wish to buy the harness for (so they can write the dog's name on the harness) and then Isolde will deliver the harness to the Lodges. The Lodge caregivers, and the dogs, would be so grateful if you could help them out in this way. If you do purchase one (or more!) of these harnesses for one of the dogs mentioned above, please post this info under the dog's site. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Jeanne, this seems like a great idea to me. Lori and I will donate harnesses for Layla and Lilly -- I can't resist either one of them. I will post here and under Lilly's site, and I will e-mail Isolde in a couple of minutes.
I've e-mailed Isolde and will help out Coconut and Hera.
I just called the Welcome Center and Annie, Judge and Lacey and now taken care of. Happy Holidays you little sweethearts. This was a perfect idea Jeanne. Thanks for including all of us in it.
