Jeanne and Pat are definitely AWESOME PAWSOME for working on this project but it was/is Isolde who came up with the idea and made it happen. Isolde is the gift shop manager and spends two mornings a week walking dogs at the Lodges. When she discovered this harness and started carrying it in the gift shop she decided that dogs at the Lodges needed them and set up the program. Isolde is a major advocate of the Lodge Dogs. She and I share an office and within days of my starting at BFshe had me walking dogs at the Lodges.

Thanks Mary Pat for clarifying that and kudos to Isolde for making this happen. Isolde's interest and caring for the Lodge dogs is well documented. Jeanne and I were only the communication conduits for the project. It seems every good dead of this type "takes a village". :-)

And thank goodness there is a 'village' called Best Friends with so many wonderful people! Thanks to all - always.

Often in animal welfare we hear "working together we can make a difference" and never have I seen it more in evidence than the last couple of days. The group of us who are Lodge Dog afficienados have become a village who is making a difference - the Caregivers who made lists and measured, Jeanne, Robin, Pat, Isolde, Brittan and Lynn from the Gift Shop, and all of you who heard the call and without a second thought picked up the phone and purchased a harness. WAY TO GO LODGE DOG VILLAGE!!!
My apologies for leaving Isolde out of the equation. Thank You Isolde!
I would like to verbally commit for Twyla. Her sweet old pittie face breaks my heart every time I see her picture. Is the gift shop open on Saturdays- I'm pretty sure it is, right? If not, I can give a call on Monday to order for her. I wish she wasn't red collar so I could enjoy walking her with the harness on my next trip...hint, hint :)
Hugs to Twyla and the gang.

Yup, it sure is. Maybe you could get her a harness in a non-red hue and it will inspire her.:-)
Let us know how you make out.
I spoke with Joanne at the Gift Shop today. After my purchase all of the Lodge dogs will now be sporting new harnesses! This was a whirlwind event and it's great to be a small part of it. WooHoo for the Lodge dogs.
I was trying to edit and I am getting an error message. Where is the Network Fairy when you need her! I should say all of the Lodge dogs that were on the original list have harnesses (in case I was not clear).
Pat,
I just spoke with Heidi Z and Jackie at "Admissions at Maggie's." This is the area where all the new dogs arrive. Most of the dogs that arrive at Admissions at Maggies are very stressed. Many have been abused and/or neglected in their previous homes. Many are skin and bones. Heidi and Jackie heard about our harness drive at the Lodges, and they asked if any of the Lodge fans would be willing to purchase items for the dogs in their area. Here is their list:
Kongs--Red, size Large
Chicken Jerky Dog Treats (ones made in USA are best)
Dog Soft Toys
Fleece Blankets, size large
Heidi and Jackie said they would be profoundly grateful to receive any of the above items. Please send to: Heidi and Jackie, c/o Admissions at Maggie's, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab UT 84741.
On behalf of all the dogs at Admissions at Maggies, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Jeanne, thanks for spreading the word about Maggies.
As Jeanne noted, Maggies has some special challenges. Not only are the dogs arriving in all sorts of conditions and mental states, but as an area, they really don't have a chance to build up a network of supporters like the Lodges does. Volunteers aren't allowed at Maggies and many of the dogs don't accumulate "fans" until they move into other areas. For that reason, they probably get the left-overs when it comes to toys and other donated "extras". It also doesn't make sense that they will start a Group on the Network any time soon to develop their own fan base. Since they are our neighbors in Dogtown, I think the "neighborly" thing to do is include them on our Wish List.
Maggies will have their own section in the Lodges' Wish List. Please check back often for updates. Anything you can do to help will be hugely appreciated. Thanks again for your caring and generosity.
jeannemodesitt: Fleece Blankets, size large
OK - just regular fleece blankets or special dog fleece blankets? I don't think my suitcase will hold any more for this weekend, but I'll get a box put together and get it sent to Heidi and Jackie.
Jeanne,
Are the kongs for medium or strong chewers and what kind of pounds. Also did Twyla and Modoc gety harnesses?
Thanks,
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn,
I know that someone posted on Friday that they were buying a harness for Twyla. When Frankie_paws talked to the gift shop yesterday, they told her that the present list was now complete. If you want to confirm you could call them. They are going to be giving me an official update twice a week. Otherwise, I go by posts about who buys what and when. :-)
Thanks so much for your generosity and concern.
