Going Mobile Saves Lives—How Just One Text Message Can Help Homeless Pets
Millions of dogs and cats are euthanized each year in America, because no home can be found for them. It’s time for a change. These pets deserve love and life and families to call their own.

by Claudia Perrone, Best Friends Network Staff

Starting November 21st in Los Angeles, Best Friends is taking to the streets to tell everyone how just one text message can help homeless pets. By displaying the message across the city on bus shelter advertisements, covering the beaches in beach barrels wrapped with the No More Homeless Pets message, and hundreds of volunteers—wearing bright orange T-shirts—hitting the streets to ask everyone to text in, we are hoping to create a stir and recruit more like-minded animal lovers to work toward achieving No More Homeless Pets.

After all, there are millions of people in L.A. who can help, just by volunteering some time, making a donation, or adopting pets from greater L.A. Shelters. Working together, we can reach our goal of a day with No More Homeless Pets.

Text "LAPETS" to short code 42107 to learn how you can help volunteer, search adoptable pets in your area, and help us with this crusade.

Show us your text message alert at one of our events, and we'll give you a free T-shirt* as a way of saying thank you for joining our cause. Please check out the calendar for events in your area and specific contact information for each day.

Locations this weekend (12/6 and 12/7) include Laurel Canyon, Manhattan Beach, and Griffith Park.

Dahlilah’s story:

Who is that hopeful face behind those big brown eyes? Meet our poster dog, Dahlilah… she is one of our very own success stories. She was found by Best Friends employees “out in the middle of nowhere” as they were driving back to the sanctuary from Salt Lake City. There, on the side of the road, were Dahlilah and Zander, her 4 month old son. Zander was hit by a car and was lying in a ditch, and Dahlilah was close by his side. They both were brought back to the sanctuary to receive some TLC. Where is she now? Dahlilah has since been adopted by a family in Virginia, where she plays in the grass and is taken for walks by a 5-year old!
