Last Chance for You to Help KAT 5 Win $10,000!
The Six Degrees contest ends this Sunday, Sept. 16th and every dollar donated can help save animals.
By Jennifer Hayes: Best Friends Network With only today and the weekend remaining, there is not much time left to donate to help KAT 5 Animal Rescue win a Six Degrees $10,000 grant. Throughout the week they have shifted between 3rd and 5th place and are currently in 5th place with 320 donations. Each of the top six non-profit organizations will win a $10,000 grant, but the competition is very close.
The object of the contest is to receive as many individual donations as possible from various people, utilizing social networking and community outreach. The minimum financial contribution to count toward the contest is $10, but your gift may be the one that allows KAT 5 to win. Susan Meyer, Executive Director of KAT 5 Animal Rescue, states “I am awed and amazed by the response of so many generous people. So many people have united to get the word out to help animals.”
KAT 5 Animal Rescue is a Dallas based grass roots organization that mobilizes in times of disaster. They were formed after rescuing animals stranded from Hurricane Katrina. Though the storm occurred over two years ago, they continue help Katrina animals such as Lyle.

Lyle was rescued two years ago by Larry Roberts, President of KAT 5, after Hurricane Katrina and placed with the Humane Society of Louisiana. A person claiming to be from a pit bull rescue pulled Lyle and several other dogs from the Humane Society and unfortunately, he ended up in Kentucky where was forced to live on end of a chain. Humane Society volunteers stepped in and re-rescued him and he was returned to the Humane Society of Louisiana in Tylertown. Lyle has recently been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be rehabilitated and rehomed by Brandon Fouche of Canine Communications in Los Angeles . Unfortunately, because Lyle is a pit bull, he is not allowed to fly on a commercial airline, and the cost to drive him from Mississippi to California will be approximately $800. This is just one example of an animal that KAT 5 continues to help.
They also paid for the vetting and care for 150 dogs and 13 cats from a cruelty situation in Georgia , this time a man-made disaster. Since then, almost 1 ½ years ago, all but three dogs have been adopted into homes or were accepted into rescue groups.
Please help KAT 5 continue to do wonderful work on behalf of animals. Since it is currently hurricane season, the money is needed now more than ever. The Six Degrees contest ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, but please do not wait to donate. For you it may only be $10, but it is money that could help save an animal’s life.
