This group is in support of The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City (HSGKC). We are the oldest humane society in the Kansas City community -- serving pets in need since 1912. We became the first no kill shelter in the area in 1994 and opened the first preventive vet care clinic for low-income pet owners. Today our clinic has 20,000 pet visits a year and spays/neuters 6,000 dogs and cats.
In 2009 we formed a partnership with our local Kansas City Kansas Animal Control, called Ray of Hope. This partnership has decreased the euthanasia at the city shelter to 3% -- making Wyandotte County the first no kill county in all of Kansas City! Ray of Hope has saved thousands of lives of pets that normally would have been euthanized at the city shelter. The program costs the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City $10,000 a month to find safe, adoptive and foster homes for these precious pets previously cast aside. We work hand-in-hand with a vast network of rescue groups and no kill shelters to save these animals before their time is up.
We are located at 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104. Visit our website at www.hsgkc.org for more information about the organization or how you can get involved.
