There's no doubt about it. Without volunteers, rescues like the Great Reno Rabbit Rescue simply couldn't happen.

Dozens of Reno residents have stepped up to help out since the project started and far beyond. Handling everything from cage cleaning to feeding and health care, volunteers are the backbone of the rescue and ongoing adoptions of these adorable bunnies.

However, there's one Reno volunteer that stands out because of her dedication and hard work. Meet Meg Earsley, rescuer extraordinaire! When she heard about the rabbit rescue going on in Reno, Meg knew she had to do something to help, and boy, did she! Meg, who lives in Wisconsin, took vacation time, hopped on a plane, and sped to Reno, where she spent over a week working with bunnies that needed her.

Why'd she do it? Because she loves animals, and couldn't think of doing anything else! She says, "Then I thought, what an awesome vacation it would be to take care of 1,000 rabbits! and I contacted Best Friends. I never worried about going. I can't think of a rescue with a better reputation than Best Friends. I knew if they were there, great things were being accomplished."

Meg spent eight days working with the rabbits, doing everything from cleaning cages to helping some of the more timid rabbits socialize with each other and get used to humans. She tended to the rabbits needing medical attention, made up surgical packs for neutering, and helped name each and every rabbit in the medical unit! If it needed to be done, Meg jumped in and lent a hand.

While housing for volunteers was available at the ranch, Meg opted to stay in a Reno hotel and rent a car during her volunteer stint. Back at home now, she urges everyone who loves animals to pitch in and help out, no matter where you are. Meg says, "I got so much more out of volunteering than the rabbits did.
