More rabbits wrangled out of Reno
Mission accomplished! Well, at least, Round One: gathering up the rabbits.
As of today, the rabbit rescue team has moved all the rabbits from their little back yard to their new deluxe rescue ranch outside of Reno.
It's taken this long to get the final few because they've been hiding out underground and under trailers, and giving birth to more babies. So it took quite a bit of work. Catching rabbits can be tricky. They like to hop away!
But 10 people managed to wrangle the final 350 stragglers over a two-day marathon. Whew! That's a lot of rabbit catching. How did they do it? Safe nets, mainly. But some of the fastest runners needed to be caught with humane traps, after the humans had backed away. And at last, every rabbit needing help from the Great Bunny Rescue is living at the rescue ranch -- more than 1,200 total, one at a time! (And many of them have been giving birth soon after being rescued. So the numbers have still been rising.)
Meanwhile, spay/neuter and health care continue non-stop. And then it's on to getting these loveable hoppers into great homes.
