UPDATE: Georgia Dog Fighting Bill One Step Closer to Reality
Non-Civil Judiciary Committee says bill is ok to move forward
By Jon Dunn, Best Friends Animal SocietyThis morning inside the Georgia State Capitol, 16 lawmakers debated the merits of a bill that would severely punish those involved in the cruel blood sport of dog fighting.
The bill working its way on the house side is H.B. 301, not the bill of state Senator Chip Rogers, but the language is still strong and supporters are happy with today’s news.
Sen. Rogers, like most Georgians, is anxious to see stiffer penalties for those who dog fight. He is now working closely with house member Rep. Bobby Reese of Gwinnett County to make sure legislation passes in 2008.
The bill passed the committee, by a 15-1 vote.
