Be Kind To Animals Week
Anyone reading this does not need a lesson in how to be kind to animals - we all do things in our daily lives that live up to that mantra.
Reaching the kids is where it all begins, so here are some fun suggestions to engage their natural interest in animals while they learn about compassion.
~ Set up a bird feeder and keep it full of bird food. Watch from the window at how happy they are.
~ Collect food or supplies for shelter animals. Check area shelters' wishlists for items they can really use.
~ Be nice to bugs! Our first inclination as children when seeing something crawling on the ground is to squash it. Reverse that thinking by showing kids how to use a paper cup and piece of cardboard to catch and release bugs who become trapped inside the house. They'll soon cultivate a sense of caregiving from the lifesaving process. Here are more tips from the
Compassion Action Institute.
~ Spend special time every day with their own animals. Brushing, walking or cuddling in front of TV together - it doesn't matter to the animals just as long as they are with their special people.
