Operation Sally - GOAL REACHED!!! SURGERY ON MONDAY, APRIL 6
April 4, 2009: Keep a good thought, everyone - Sally heads to Vegas for surgery this Monday, April 6!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
March 27, 2009: A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated, passed the word or sent good thoughts to Sally - we have reached the goal of $4,000! Tentative surgery date is mid April. Will keep everyone updated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mind over matter has been Sally's mantra since the day she was born. Eventually ending up in a Los Angeles shelter as genetically messed up as she was, it's a miracle in itself she ever saw the light of day again.

But she's just the sort of dog Terrah Johnson has pulled from those high-kill facilities when no one else would.

Terrah - FHS volunteer and photographer who creates those wonderful adoption posters of our kids - adopted this obviously inbred pittie with the funny walk in 2007; now Sally has been diagnosed with a grade 4 medial luxating patella (floating knee caps) and requires surgery before she loses complete mobility.

Terrah is holding a fund-raiser for the double procedure with the goal of reaching the $4,000 surgical & post-op fees by March 31. In exchange for a $35 donation, she is gifting local donors with:

a 45-minute photo shoot
5 4x6 prints
digital darkroom processing
online gallery to choose prints
additional photos or specialty items

Those who donate from outside the Kanab/Fredonia and surrounding area can choose to regift their photo shoot or wait until they visit to have it done.

Visit Sally's blog for further info about luxating patella, details on the surgery and videos of her walking.

Donations can be sent directly to FHS at PO Box 1238, Fredonia, AZ 86022 or through PayPal with email fredhumsoc@aol.com. Please write "For Sally" on the check or PayPal donation.

All story photos by Terrah Johnson Photography.

I'm in, too! Wonder if I could sneak my 10 pound reject-of-society, Evi, with me on my next trip? Wonder if I would ever again be invited to share a cottage with my pals?

Posted 17 Feb 2009 8:12 AM by pattycatty
Carrie, not to worry. I would love to meet Evi, in fact I'm pretty convinced I may evern share some social traits with her.

Count me in. Since my cats are probably too booked doing press tours and tiara fittings she would do a private portrait sitting for Theresa.

I just love Sally's nose!

Did Coral receive her valentine?

How sweet is that Sally! Oh my gosh!
too bad I am not local so I could get a photo session with....oh no, who would I pick??? Zephyr or Jiminy????
good thing I won't have to choose.
Sally is in my prayers as is Terrah.
I absolutely love her photographs.
Count me in!!!!

Everyone really needs to take a moment and check out Sally's tally. :-)

Posted 18 Feb 2009 7:51 PM by pattycatty
Oh wow! More than half way there.

Posted 18 Feb 2009 8:28 PM by carrie_fosters
Unbefreakinlievable! I think that it's important to remember, especially the day after so many of Sally's "kind" were murdered, that there are lots of good people willing to help in some small way!

Lots of good people + small contributions = HUGE GOOD.

For those with a Facebook membership, please see the new group I just formed for Operation Sally.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=77761334808

While I don't know either Sally or Terrah, I "feel their pain" having been through a similar one 2 years ago with my buddy, Monroe, who had a slipped disc and needed an emergency operation.

I created the group so that friends and friends of friends (and so on) may make a difference in the lives of Sally and Terrah.

All my best-
Sam

We so rock! As I mentioned to Tom on my paypal donation for Sally, it's a privilege to help someone who has done such amazing photographs and adoption posters for the FHS kids. Terrah, what goes around comes around. You did all the heavy lifting saving Sally in the first place. Thank you for letting us all have a part in helping her be successful, healthy and happy. Hurray!

I am so sad to hear this news. I know how much Terrah's dogs mean to her and the hard dedication to rescue work. She is amazing and I hope Sally gets enough donations, you could not donate to a better animal lover then a girl like Terrah!

I am so happy for Sally. Since Zephy has the same type condition, Sally's plight has touched me deeply.
As soon as I cover all my home purchasing costs I'll send some more to cover "after care" costs.

Happy Dance for Sally and Terrah!
Lisa

Thinking of Sally and her mom today.

The vet just called. i am not sure if sally is worse or better than he thought. But he said after looking at her it would be better if they did one leg at a time. So the next leg will be done in a few weeks. He said her kneecap is also out of socket, so they will work on that. eek!

He will also take a look at her bowed elbows to see if they need work in the future. good thing I have that second job now. hehe!
These dogs cost too much, but they are very worth it.

I love her even if she is a mess.

Posted 6 Apr 2009 5:21 PM by frankie_paws
They definitely are worth it, Terrah.

One side down, one to go. Maybe Sally will heal faster one leg at a time and it will give her some more stability when the next leg is done.

Thank you so much for the update!

Thanks for the update, Terrah. Sally is such a lucky little girl that you see not just her big problems, but her big heart as well. It's going to be quite a job for her to recover from all this medical stuff. And we'll be rooting for her every step...literally...of the way!

Posted 7 Apr 2009 10:05 PM by Terrahj
I will be keeping sally's blog updated - hopefully daily. So please visit and see her progress.
