Start Spreadin' The News ... AGAIN! Benefit Concert for FHS Building Fund
What's better than raising $10,000 to help complete the long-awaited indoor-outdoor shelter building? Raising $20,000!

And that's just what will happen when Best Friends matches our goal dollar-for-dollar at the 2008 benefit concert, An Evening of Broadway.

Best Friends' very own Juliette Watt is back for a second go at topping her own success at last summer's event where she and pianist Sheila Bernstein captured the audience with an eclectic ensemble of beloved Broadway tunes; in the process, they raised nearly $9,000 for FHS, half of which was a matching donation from Best Friends.

This year, however, the generosity of the nation's largest no-kill animal sanctuary knows no bounds: Best Friends will match whatever amount Juliette's benefit raises.

Is a $10,000 goal pie in the sky? Not likely since the community knows what kind of show Juliette produces; given the response from last year, we just might surpass that aim.

For some background on this most captivating British personality, click here to read a brief interview with Juliette before the first FHS benefit concert last summer.

Oooooh, what fun! Wish I could wing in for the weekend to enjoy the show. It sounded like a great time last year. I'll do my best to send a donation toward the matching fund.

Tom, who's in charge of the silent auction? I'd like to donate something this year.

Oh I wish I could be there! It sounds like an evening of great fun. Hope you reach your goal.

Maybe you could sell CDs of the event for those of us who can't be there. My marketing skills are always availble :-)

We're in the process of finding out if that's doable, Patty. Thanks for your offer!

Thank you, Carrie. An afternoon dog walking next visit would be a fair trade!

Well, you're in luck! Marti and Pat have talked me into joining them for a quick visit at the end of May and I'd be willing to bet they'd be happy to join me in a day of dog walking for FHS. Please have 3 Juliet CDs ready for purchase by then! ; )

That's great, Carrie! Maybe you can break John Garcia's Guinness Book record for the number of dogs walked by one person. Except this time at least half will be squirrely, 3-month-old puppies instead of older, calmer dogs. :-)

HA! Apparently, Tom, you have me confused with someone young, agile and with a modicum of control over the canine set. Heck, I can't even walk my own three without becoming a human May Pole.

The good news is that there will now be FOUR of us "helping" on the afternoon of the 29th. We ought to be able to get a few walks accomplished in between long bouts of puppy socialization. ; )

Well, since we have three adoption events between now and the time you gals arrive, you just may be without a single furkid to walk (that would truly be a first). How do you feel about driving a tractor? :-)

Wouldn't that be GREAT if you were plum out of dogs?! Right . . . like there's a shelter in the world that doesn't fill right back up no matter how many animals get adopted. I'll sure think good thoughts for all those kids that they find wonderful homes, though! Especially Autumn. Man, what a big, beautiful girl she turned out to be with all the care you guys gave her!

Let's see, I learned to drive a tractor, hay harvester and baler the summer of '72 (young California city girl spends summer on Montana ranch kinda thing). I'm thinkin' you don't really want to put me on a tractor this many years later. One of the others might be game, though!

Carrie dahling - I think you'd look mahvalous on a tractor. Marti

Posted 13 Mar 2008 9:56 PM by frankie_paws
And what will you be doing on that tractor, Carrie? If it has anything to do with hay I'm sticking with walking the dogs. :o)

Posted 13 Mar 2008 9:58 PM by carrie_fosters
Psssst, Marti. He didn't ask what we'd look like on a tractor, he asked if we could actually do something useful on one. Like help build a shelter or something. Geesh . . . you're going to get us fired as volunteers before we ever step foot in Fredonia!

Frankie, I could be terribly wrong about this but I'm guessing that between running the town, running the shelter, running to The Gap, and whatever and wherever else the man is running, he's not also trying to grow hay in rock dust.

I imagine that about now Tom and his real volunteers are shaking their heads and wondering why they ever invited us to volunteer in the first place. Maybe they liked watching The Three Stooges as kids and figure four will be even better.

Apologies to Juliet and everyone else for taking over here! We will make a sincere effort to contain ourselves. Won't we gals? ; )

I don't think we're ready to do a "Tractor Girls of FHS" calendar fundraiser quite yet.....

Posted 13 Mar 2008 10:17 PM by carrie_fosters
HAHAHAHAHA . . . I'm dying here!

Posted 13 Mar 2008 10:40 PM by pattycatty
I grew up with a big ol' honkin' John Deere. Green with huge yellow wheels. This could be fun. Hey Tom, got any cats at your place? One of us should help out with the cats, don't you think?

Posted 14 Mar 2008 12:58 AM by Kathy_g
Oh but Tom-what FUN(and funds) that calendar would bring!

Hey, girls out there......I would buy one of your calendars in a heartbeat.....and I would bet anything that multi-talented Juliet would adore being on the cover! Wow, this is getting more exciting all the time!

Posted 15 Mar 2008 6:09 PM by carrie_fosters
AAAAAACCKK . . . don't encourage them, Mary! How did volunteering to walk a few FHS dogs go so WRONG?

Posted 16 Mar 2008 11:25 AM by Kathy_g

You'll have SOmuch fun-see ya on the calendar!
