Dodger Dogs Out At the Plate?
Popular hotdogs at Los Angeles ballpark face opposition; concern about the "lives of the animals before they became hotdogs"
Dodger Dogs Out At the Plate?Animal Legal Defense Fund has asked the owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team to terminate its relationship "with Farmer John and its cruelly produced pork products," reports the Los Angeles Times in a May 15 story.
Corcpork, one of the Farm John suppliers, has long been under scrutiny from animal advocates for allegations of cruelty in their operations.
Lisa Franzetta, spokesperson for Animal Legal Defense Fund, said that while other livestock producers worldwide have taken steps to treat livestock more humanely, those who produce Dodger Dogs continue to use inhumane practices, such as keeping pregnant or nursing pigs in cages so small that the animals cannot even turn aound.
Still Concerned About the Lives The Animals Lived Before They Became Hot DogsMs. Franzetta stated that even those Dodgers' fans who enjoy eating meat "still are concerned about the lives the animals lived before they became their hot dogs."
