Aurora is a beautiful little shepherd mix, and she is oh so sweet! She is a little timid, more so of men it seems, but she gets better every day people come to interact with her. Aurora is only 9 months old (Oct 2009), and even though she is a bit shy when it comes to people, she's not shy at all around other dogs. In fact, she's a bit sassy! Aurora likes to tell her runmates what to do, which is funny since she's the smallest of the bunch! She's not aggressive with them, just kind of a little pistol! Aurora came to Best Friends form Fredonia Humane Society where she was originally picked up on the reservation with a handful of other puppies. One of Aurora's favorite things to do is play with her friend Flynn. They are not in the same run, but we noticed they were fond of each other when they were neighbors, so we frequently give them play time together just for fun!
How CUTE!! She is going to find a home FAST!!!
If you want to SEE a change, you have to BE the change.
Yesterday, I walked Aurora and also took her on her first sleepover. She's a shy girl, so it was a lot of new and scary stuff for her, but she took it all well...and I think she just might have enjoyed the bed :). She's a very gentle, lovable girl...and she has the most beautiful, expressive eyes.
Yet another FHS star. You are certainly drawn to them! I understand; there is something very special about them. ; )
I truly believe Aurora has a future as a bedspread model. There isn't a bad shot in this entire thread and she looks stunning on every bed she's posed on. I bet she'll find her "forever bed" soon.

Today I have Aurora again for an extended outing/sleepover (translation: I've had her since about 1:30 this afternoon). She's definitely doing a bit better today, but there's still a way to go yet with her fear of going through doors and then exploring once she's inside. Though she still just wants to be in her "safe zone" on the bed, she's sleeping in more relaxed positions, etc. today...and I'm starting to see some of those endearing Gap dog tendencies emerge.
This afternoon, we walked down to the pet shop nearby the hotel. As I was coaxing her through the door...I discovered that the owners are huge Aurora fans and were thrilled that she'd stopped by (they help out at FHS, and she was one of their favorites there). They were great to offer her treats and petting and she calmed down pretty quickly and even explored a little. Miss Aurora is also now the proud owner of her very own Kong Wubba (thanks so much to her old friends for giving it to her!). She really loves it and even insisted that she carry it back from the store herself! She's even gotten up the nerve to play with it inside the hotel room from time to time :).
Modeling her new toy:
Such a beauty. I love the image of her walking "home" with her purple wubba in her mouth.
My sweet Aurora... Glad to see you getting out and getting your wings.... and Wubba! LOL... I'm still working with your brother Possum... he is a bit shy too, but he will get his wings soon too. He has a new friend... Gracie... who would have ever guessed!
I had Aurora for the third and final night on Saturday. She played with all of the toys in the sleepover kit from the start, so I think that was a pretty good indicator that she was feeling more comfortable. I'm going to miss sweet Aurora...hopefully someone comes along soon who will be willing to look beneath the shyness and see the beautiful dog hiding underneath!
Aurora playing with her toys:
Aurora is in need of more sleepover experience. As some of you may have heard, last week Aurora went on a sleepover and escaped while the volunteers had her on a hike up Squaw Trail. We spent 2 whole days searching for her, and finally got her back on the third morning. She was stuck on a little rock ledge which Angie gladly scaled to help her get down (Nice work Ang!!!).
So, it is apparent that Aurora needs some special attention and cautious individuals to help her get over her timid nature. Anyone who would like to take Aurora on a sleepover needs to be aware that she is a flight risk, and if you drop the leash, chances are we will be spending the next 3 days looking for her again. That said, Who's Up for A Sleepover with Aurora!!!! :o)
Me!!! Make sure your calendar is clear the second week of December, Miss Aurora! There's also a little present headed your way...a volunteer coming out in a few weeks is going to deliver it for me :). I've missed you a lot since our sleep overs!
Oh no--Miss Aurora is an escape artist! We had her on sleepovers on Sept 23 and 24 and she seemed most comfortable on the bed. Doesn't she know there are no beds in the wilderness?!! She is such a sweetie. She definitely opened up to us more on the second night so she just needs someone who will be patient with her. She is completely different in her comfort zone at the Sanctuary with her runmates--I think she would enjoy brothers or sisters. And a large yard with a fence!
For those of you following Aurora - I just came across a video I posted on FHS FaceBook sometime back. Aurora and her brother Lamar (formerly Possum), and Larkin playing at the dog park in La Estancia.

Were your ears ringing, Ms. Aurora? Your favorite volunteer Jennifer and I were chatting away about you this weekend. She even slipped me a special toy to bring to you when I come out in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to seeing what a big girl you have become since I first met you as a puppy at Fredonia Humane.
