Crafty People Needed to Sew Simple Rice Bags for Animals
Help keep pets warm in Vermont
SpayED is working on opening a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in Central Vermont. One very simple thing they need are rice bags with covers. These are bags about 5” x 8” (or any similar size from available scrap material) filled with rice that can be microwaved and used to keep animals warm. The covers are just pocket covers with the top open for easy on and off for washing.
Pamela Krausz of SpayED sent the photo:
"Here is a photo of two bags - one in a cover, one with cover separate. Anything around the 5" x 8” size - some are longer and narrower, some more square - it all depends on what material is available. I used pillow cases for some - less sewing - along the side and bottom means two sides are already done. For the covers, flannel is really nice. The top of a flannel pillow case means the top open end is finished (the less sewing for me, the better!)."
If you're going to fill with rice, be sure to not use instant rice. If the cost of mailing filled bags is prohibitive, you are welcome to send bags with an opening left for them to fill them in Vermont.
If you have some scraps and can help out, please send the finished bags to:
