Bikers, Harley-Davidson Dealers in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New York Join Expanded ‘Bikers for Best Friends’ Pet Adoption Event Sept. 22

Motorcycle enthusiasts from four states will team with local Harley-Davidson dealers for the Second Annual “Bikers for Best Friends” Pet Adoption and Poker Run Saturday, Sept. 22. Expanded this year from one to four locations, bikers will take part in a fund raising ride that begins at Harley-Davidson dealers in New Rochelle, N.Y., Scottsdale, Ariz., Frederick, Colo., and Washington City, Utah. During the day, dogs and cats from various local rescue groups and shelters will be available for adoption at the dealerships.

Proceeds from the fund raising event will go to local participating rescue groups and shelters. Bikers are encouraged to create their own online pledge page in order to encourage sponsor donations from family and friends. The participant who raises the most in donations will win a year’s worth of Natural Balance dog or cat food. Participants can pre-register and pay the $20-$30 registration fee online; everyone registered by Sept. 15 will receive a free event T-shirt.

The ride will include a “poker run” where at each of five stops along the way, riders will draw a card. Once they have a complete poker hand of five cards, the best hand will win a prize.

“We had around 80 riders in first event and we hope to surpass 100 this year,” said Alan Blackburn, owner of the Zion Harley-Davidson Shop in Washington, Utah, which hosted the inaugural Bikers for Best Friends ride in 2006. “Bikers in our area have adopted Best Friends as one of their favorite charities and we expect another large turnout this year.”

The event will also include lunch for the participants, as well as entertainment at each of the Harley-Davidson dealers.

“We’re very excited about our first Bikers for Best Friends event in Colorado,” said Mark Stefanowski, who is organizing the event in conjunction with High Country Harley-Davidson/Buell in Frederick, Colo., near Boulder. “I’ve been lucky enough to observe the work being done by Best Friends. This is my way of contributing something to the animals and my community, as well as having a great time for a good cause.”

Hopefully all the locations get HUGE turnouts!

I LOVE that "Bikers For Best Friends" Logo! You should put it on a t-shirt and sell it, and give the proceeds to the Bikers' cause!!!

How would I go about getting one set up in the Washington DC area??

Please send some information about setting up this event / adding another dealership for next year.
There's a couple dealerships in NW Ohio. The turnout for other events with them have been great! If you'd send the needed info to coordinate, - I'm sure we could make it happen here!

Wanted to post a special THANKS to Scott May and the Rocky Mountain Edition of Quick Throttle Magazine. I was a great surprise to open up the September Edition and see a half page ad for the Colorado ride. I'm sure that is some valuable space, and can't thank Scott enough for parting with it!

Please send some information on how to organize a bike run in my community. The past events have been very successful. I would love to see one done for the animals. Southern Illinois needs something like this.
It's awesome to see so many come together for the sake of our companions whom are always their for us and never judge. They deserve it!

Where can I get the t-shirts? Can't find them in the gift shop. If I can't ride, I at least want to support the ride and give the t-shirts to all my biker friends.

What a great idea ! I just joined, Best Friends Network, and I am SO thrilled to see bikers and our best friends together. This is really fabulous. My ride was stolen a year ago, but I would love a t-shirt! All the very best to everyone involved,

If you're in Colorado, you don't have to have a bike to attend. The ride will be finishing at the Left Hand Brewery in Longmont with a great band playing from 3pm to 6pm. C'mon on out, enjoy some music and show your support.

And if you do make it out, stop by and say "Hi". You won't miss me, I'll be the guy in the black shirt riding the Harley. :)

I wouldn't mind trying to drum up some interest here in Maryland. Maybe Best Friends could post start up info on their website. Looks like there is some interest in helping to expand this event.

Would love to get something going here in Central Florida. Big biker community. Please let me know how we can participate next year. I'm an active member of the local Harley Owners Group and I would like to present this idea to the membership and of course to the dealership. They're good people and I know they'd like to be a part of this cause.

What a great idea. I'd love to get something started in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area. Please let me know who to contact at BF to get something going. I work for In Defense of Animals (www.idausa.org) and would be able to drum up alot of people!
