Big Sunday Project a Huge Success
Big Sunday at the Lancaster Animal Shelter is a huge success!
By Robin Skov, Best Friends Brigade CoordinatorDedicated Best Friends’ Brigade members headed out early in the morning on May 3rd to the Lancaster Animal Shelter to participate in Big Sunday, the largest regional community service event in America.
http://www.bigsunday.org/index.html The ambitious plan for the day included an incredible amount of much-needed repairs, upgrades, sanitizing, and beautification for one of the LA county shelters that houses hundreds of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and bunnies.
The Brigade was given the task of cleaning and sanitizing the spay/neuter clinic. At first glance, the task did not seem to be all that daunting. Then we started moving kennels and crates and it became clear that we would need to completely scrub down the walls and sweep and mop the floors multiple times. Armed with bleach, gloves, mop, and the desire to help the animals, the Brigade team had the entire clinic virtually spotless in just hours.
Special thanks goes out to the Volunteer Coordinator of the Agoura County Shelter who realized that the Lancaster Shelter was in such need of refurbishment and repair and willingly lent her support, expertise, and volunteers to help out with this amazing project.
