Thanks to Irene P., a North Central volunteer, who took it upon herself to organize a wonderful grand opening event to show off North Central Animal Shelter's newly expanded facility equipped with cooling misters, heated floors for their pets, along with beautiful flowers/plants and the soothing sound of water fountains and much more!

Irene contacted the Brigade to help with the grooming before this event. She wanted to have a few days of grooming for the shelter dogs plus, during opening day, we would offer grooming for people's personal pets for a small donation which will go into a special fund.

Thanks to these wonderful Brigade volunteers for making this happen, we had three full days of grooming covered!!!!:

Rilee F. and Mark W. volunteered on Wednesday, October 4th for the entire day preparing dogs for the official Grand Opening held on Thursday, October 5th with many city dignitaries attending.

Then on Friday, October 6th, I scheduled two shifts, morning and afternoon:

Pauli Peter and Susan Hershey handled the morning shift and then Jennifer Krause and Jessica Cliver dealt with the afternoon shift. With all their hard work, about 17 dogs were groomed this day!

On the "Grand Opening Day", Saturday, October 7th, I had Faith T., Amanda A., Marilyn P. and Sandra H. grooming the whole day!

This day was spent grooming people's personal pets. Boy, was our work cut out for us! From as large as a St. Bernard ( see photo) that just needed a bath, to as small as a Maltese mix that needed special grooming ( see photo). This poor dog had bad matts that needed cutting! It took us most of the afternoon. He was such a wonderful dog and very well behaved! His owner didn't realize that she needed to take him to a groomer every month! We made sure she got the message!

Everyone worked incredibly hard with barely time to take a break! In fact, we didn't even have time to take pictures, except for the two. We were consumed and very driven!

The volunteers were just awesome and made this a very successful Brigade mission! All the dogs and the shelter staff really appreciated all their hard work!
