Carol Long, the wonderful volunteer coordinator for our Catnippers program, rescued a mommy cat and her kittens from her worksite. The kittens have all been adopted but the mom needs a foster/adopted home. She is spayed, vaccinated, and has tested negative for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS. Oreo, female, 6 month chihuahua mix, who weighs only 8 pounds. Oreo is very sweet and shy and likes nothing better than to cuddle all day with you. She is very comfortable with other dogs and cats.

FOR ADOPTION: Bobby the Beagle

Bobby is a 3 year old Beagle mix who had a serious injury to one of his legs. He was rescued him from the North Central Shelter and a wonderful animal group donated the funds for his surgery. He has pin, screws and wires in his leg but should make a full recovery as he is only 3 years old, and about 16 pounds. Bobby is also anxious to get out of the animal hospital and get some special attention. He will need to be crated for a few more weeks as his leg fully heals. Bobby is house-broken and seems to be particular about if he likes other dogs or not. Might be best as the only dog or with another small dog who is submissive.

Hi Gina,
I work at 3317 Exposition Place, Los Angeles, CA 90018 we are in a alley of warehouses, which they are roaming in trying to find food and shelter on their own. Looks like some of the guys at the building at the end of the alley have been giving them water and food.
If I had a truck I would do it, but I'm a bit nervous about putting them inside my car. They are pretty messed up as you can see from the photos. Yet, their disposition is very friendly. One laid in the entry way of our building this morning and I literally had to step over him a couple of times to enter/exit the door.
The problem is, I had to call the SPCA LA today to ask them to remove them because of multiple complaints about them, which is understood, they do need a home and this alley is not the place for them. Plus it looks like one of them has been roughed up a bit, not sure if by another dog or a mean person. I wish I could help them sooo bad, I'm scared someone is going to hurt them further or they will get put down. 9

Here are the photos of the dogs on the way to the vet, after Billy and Jennifer responded to this email from Twanya, and with her help, we were able to find the dogs in the alley and lure them to us (roasted turkey helped do the trick!)

Here are some more photos when we first arrived at the vet. The dogs were in really bad condition. The photos don't even justify the way they looked (or smelled, for that matter). Poor things must have been in a lot of discomfort, not to mention petrified but I think they also felt a bit relieved.

Here's some photos after being examined, shaved, and receiving medicated baths. They were both diagnosed, with Sarcoptic Mange, and will need to spend several weeks at the vet with close medical attention and special treatment. We are calling them Seymore (blue-eyed Samoyed), and Chauncy (mini Poodle) and they are really, really sweet.

Meet Krissy, an adorable 8 month old Shepherd Mix that was rescued from South LA Shelter. The thought of someone giving up this dog, astonishes me...

She is probably one of the sweetest, cutest dogs, EVER. Not to mention is extremely well behaved, smart, playful, yet intuitive.

She's probably about 35-40 and will be a med sized dog. She is up to date on her vaccinations, is spayed, and magnificent in every way.

Stunning Skye

Sky is a very sweet and loving Radgoll mix. She was rescued from the shelter were this stunning lady was dumped because her people moved to a place that didn't take animals (how rude!).

Sky is a very friendly cat. She is affectionate, likes to sit in laps and lay on the edge of a bed at night. She only seems to meow when she’s hungry. She can be playful enjoying chasing strings and toys.

This 5 1/2 year old, pure bred Shar-pei is pure love.

He was given up by his previous family due to a break-up, and then became very depressed because of the "parent" that he was really, really bonded to, and spent the most time with, left the picture.

Then, the "parent" who got "custody" decided that he wasn't exactly priority, and would leave him home alone for extended periods of time. So much, that he started to feel really lonely and depressed.

He began to develop severe separation anxiety, even chewed through a wall, and jumped over a 2 story balcony. It got so bad, the previous owner's vet prescribed anti-depressants, tranquilizers, etc. VERY sad solution in my opinion.

Anyway, one of our volunteer stepped in, who also happened to be his neighbor, and let us know about this case. She was able to talk the owner into letting Best Friends find a new home for this guy, who happens to be one of the sweetest, most well behaved dogs I've EVER met.

Interesting thing is, he has detoxed from all of the drugs, and is now with a very caring (Shar-pei loving) foster mommy and hasn't an ounce of separation anxiety. Strange how you remove a dog from an unhealthy, neglectful situation and he blossoms. These are very sensitive beings, and really feed off of humans. Thank God he is in such loving, kind hands now.

Sometimes people's hearts are in the right place but their priorities are all mixed up. Thank goodness for Charlie, he is now surrounded by patience, nurturing, and warmth while he's adjusting to his new beginning.

I'd like to find him a new, forever home where there is a female in the picture (he loves women), and someone who can devote a good deal of time and attention to him. He likes the company of other dogs, and doesn't have a mean bone in his body, however, he's more concerned about having a human's presence. Once he feels safe, he's very independent and not at all needy.

He's a remarkable guy who heals more and more every day. He's now full of love and appreciation, and never fails to greet you with many, many wet kisses!

Being a mom is hard work!

It's true, just ask Cal, she's zonked out. Hey, if you had 3 babies you'd probably be tired too. Actually, I think she is so relaxed because her and the babies were just rescued from the shelter and she is loving being in a quiet home where her and her kittens are safe and sound. Cal (momma), Jem (orange tabby), Scout (brown tabby) and Dill (the blackie) were in East Valley for over two whole weeks. I'm guessing they are so relieved to make it out safe and sound because right now East Valley is overflowing with well over 200 cats and kittens. The shelter is so maxed out that cats, kittens, moms and litters are being placed all over in rooms that weren't even created to hold animals and they simply don't have enough room. Unfortunately most the general visiting public cannot even see these guys cuz you'd have to be escorted into the maze of rooms and halls which house these precious ones.

All they are looking for is a room... bathroom or spare bedroom will do just fine, thank you...where they can hang out all by themselves. They are going to the vet first thing tomorrow morning where they will checked out and mom will probably be put on antibiotics as unfortunately most cats need it when they are behind bars for so long. Other than that food will be provided, babies will want some human lovin' and mom will continue her role as the BEST mamsita in the WEST.

"Cal, Jem, Scout and Dill," you're asking? Names ring a bell? I'm revisiting a lil' old book called "To Kill a Mockingbird" and I think the spunky personalities of the kids in the book match these kittens.
