ADOPTED: Rex
Rex was rescued from South LA Shelter, LA's most devastating shelter in terms of illness, euthanasia.

When you enter the shelter, you can feel the sadness, death, and destruction in the air. A heart-wrenching reality we all hate to face.

My colleague, Billy Criswell, was there last week to pull a dog for a local rescue group (see "Zeke" with Molly's Mutts and Meows story) and witnessed a family, complete with young children "dumping" this two adorable brother and sister pair. They were in pretty rough condition, but obviously once fluffy, white little pups.

Naturally, Billy politely asked the father why they were getting rid of these two perfectly good dogs, and the father proceeded to reply with a defensive "butt out, none of your business-type response." Another hard reality that I will never completely understand.

It's amazing how many wonderfully, well behaved, healthy animals are "sentenced" to the shelter every day, for no reason other than human convenience or otherwise, selfishness. Even if this family was in the most desperate of circumstances, could they not have found a family friend or posted them online? How can you not grow attached to another living creature that depends on you (and vice versa)?

Any way, apathy is my worst nightmare. To me, it's just a fancy word selfishness.

Okay, so before I ride this soap box any longer, let me tell you about Rex, who is a wonderfully sweet gorgeous guy that loves adults, children, walks, snuggling, and overall is pretty happy-go-lucky little dude. He needs a bit of socialization with big dogs that pass by but nothing that can't be quickly cured with some good basic training.

For a dog that seems to have just been thrown in the back yard (hence his nastiness upon entering the shelter), he's pretty perfect now and is just ready for his new life to begin.

He has been groomed, is up to date on vaccinations, and was altered yesterday.
Now he just needs to find a safe, cozy, home to call his own (forever).

In the mean time, I would love to find him a nice foster for him to stay with while we are looking for "his right match." His (twin) sister was adopted at our West Hollywood Park adoption on Saturday and is healing at the vet with him for a couple days then going on her merry way...

We are currently looking for a foster family for him to stay with while we are scouring LA prospects, looking for his new life!

REX's CREDS:
Maltese/Bichon Mix
1 year old-ish
Loves kids, people, confident, sweet
Neutered
Up to date on Vaccinations

If you are interested in giving this little guy room and board in exchange for some soft, cuddly love and affection, REPLY HERE or write to william@bestfriends.org.

Thank you!
