ADOPTED
Trooper was found wobbling the streets with a tight choke chain, rotten teeth with bloody gums, and bloody diarrhea. I picked him up and attempted to walk around the neighborhood to find his home, but his weak legs would not let him walk anymore. The neighbors believed Gramps was dumped since he had been hanging out in the area for a few days. Flyers were put up and North Central shelter was notified, but nobody came for this sweet angel.

I took Gramps to the vet where he was given Deramaxx for his arthritic hindlegs, Metronidazole for his bloody diarrhea, and Amoxicillin for his gingivitis. The vet also recommended Prescription Diet i/d canned food for 3 days to stop his vomitting and diarrhea. My hope was to let Gramps live few days of his remaining life pain-free. However, with his meds, Gramps began to perk up and putting him out of his "misery" is no longer an option. He weighed in at 60 lbs. and the vet estimated his age to be 10-12+ years old. He is possibly a Golden Retriever/Shepherd mix already neutered.

Gramps is deaf, and he is still on Deramaxx and eats rice mixed with canned food, but he is beginning to enjoy his strolls around the neighborhood and meeting other dogs. Gramps loves sniffing the fresh air, basking in the sun, and falling asleep outside on cool evenings (although I'm sure he'd rather be sleeping in the same room as me). He will lean for affection, show you tummy, and give you gentle kisses. This affectionate guy loves being petted, brushed, and just being next to you! When he got bathed, he even "ran" in his own turtle-like way to dry himself off. They may be small, but there are many things Gramps still enjoys and looks forward to. He is not ready to go yet, and would love to live out his life in a loving quiet home.

Unfortunately, I have a dog who is dog aggressive. I thought my dog would tolerate a senior non-threatening guy like Gramps, but he tried to attack Gramps immediately. I also have ANOTHER dog rescued from Griffith Park, but he is too rambunctious to be left alone with Gramps. Gramps falls and whines when the other dog jumps on him. Therefore, Gramps is confined to a small concrete area outside IF it's below 85 degrees F. My house is on a hillside so once Gramps steps down to the dirt area, he is unable to get back up, leaving him with no shade. When it is too hot outside, Gramps is kept in a puppy pen inside, away from the stairs and safely separated from the other 2 dogs. Since he does not have free reign of the house it is hard to tell if he is housebroken, but Gramps has been left alone 10+ hours inside on hot days and has not made a mess in his puppy pen.

He deserves to know how wonderful life can be. Sweet Ol' Gramps would love to spend his remaining years or months or maybe even weeks in a quiet home doing all the things he enjoys or missed out on.? Gramps had a sponsor, but unfortunately, it looks like she backed out as I can't get a hold of her. However, if you are this special person with a heart of gold... and you are able to open your home for Gramps, I am willing to help out with his meds and food.?
