French animal lovers launch Olympic petition/protest over China killing dogs for food

(Paris, France)— A French association of animal lovers on Monday launched a petition aimed at encouraging China to ban, in time for the Summer Olympics, the killing of dogs for food.

One Voice said the practice of preparing canines for the pot often involves slow and brutal methods in which the animal is beaten to death, boiled alive or hung up to bleed while still breathing.

In years past the backstreet butchers' targets of choice were St. Bernards, but now the dogs most chosen for slaughter are German shepherds.

"This trade is widespread in China, even in large cities, although in Beijing, the authorities are trying to push it outside the city ahead of the Olympics," said Muriel Arnal, president and founder of One Voice.

If there are not enough reasons to boycott products made in china. This has got to do it. It may be hard to do, but we all must not buy anything from China. Let our retailers know why.

I can remember a huge poster in 1990 in The Hague of a dog with its for legs tied behind it's back, it's now 2008 and it still goes on and on and on, and everytime I see the pictures I cry a river, am 55 years old, and 40 years in animal protection, so many people are against it and the Asian (vietnam, malaysia, china, thailand, etc, they all eat dogs and they don't care what we think. I've stopped buying chinese goods, food, don't look them in the face, as a matter of fact, when I see them I ignore them, for me they are dead. But there are good asian people too who break their back to change these customs. It's hard to distinguish the good from the bad.
So disgusted

Good for the French animal lovers/activists. It is a farce to have the Olympics, which are supposed to stand for fairness and equality in a country which is wiping another off the face of the earth. Peaceful, loving, innocent Tibetans spread across the Himalayas, either lifeless, or close to it, or the many monks imprisoned for believing in a belief system that once sincerely flourished in China. But the government is so close to being soul-less and sub-human, they may say they, "practice", but their hearts aren't in it. These Olympics should have been boycotted world-wide; there should be a ban on the export and import of anything from China. These people are murderers, liars and thieves They have no respect for any species living on this earth, from people to helpless dogs and the list goes on. China should not profit in the least from hosting the Olympics, but this world spins on the heads of politics and greed; even the athletes are hungry for gold, and more than, "just one". Those who will attend the Olympics are just as guilty as the ever-present soldiers and either don't know better, or don't care. Either way, they are wrong in being there, spending their money for China to profit further from. I wonder how many guns they'll broadcast on t.v., or what reporter will have the strength and courage to speak out about their horrific animal abuse and the atrocities they have committed in Tibet, and continue doing so. I hope there are more prayer flags flying than the Chinese can suppress, I know mine will be. And, with so many others around the world, I will light a candle the night before, in memory and in honor of the people of Tibet, who, like the dogs they torture, continue to hold love in their hearts and will be quick to forgive, if given the chance. As if they would. It is a sad moment in history, to have the Olympics hosted by non-feeling fascists who barely have a heart that beats with the positive force of life and love, somethings obviously very foreign to them. Really, they are to be pitied, living the gift of life the way they choose to. And they do make that choice. We are feeding China with false representation, as if they believe in freedom, fairness and equality. They will be awfully sorry when karma catches up with them and the horrific
acts they've been part of.
No, I will not be watching the Olympics this year. And it is so appropriate that this is the way George Bush is choosing to end his presidency, smiling and shaking the hands of those who are barely human. Who will only grow with power and someday, turn hard on us. Yes, it is a sad moment in time for all sentient beings, but especially for those they heartlessly torture over and over and over again until they grow tired. Then someone else takes their place. Their spirits are so sick, they barely show. But I'm sure there'll be plenty of Chinese smiles spread across the world. It is not the peaceful Chinese people I rage against, it is those who rule them with an iron fist and chains.
Stop me, because I could rant on forever about this.
It so goes against everything I am and believe in. They are an evil government, yet they will profit well and that just drives me crazy. It's so close to being beyond belief, until I remember the politics and the greed. They're unaware of how ashamed they should be for their inhumane actions. And it will come back to bite us one day, wait and see. Or work to prevent it the best you can. The best we can.
Yours In Kindness & Compassion,
Lin S. Goodman
