House Rabbit Society Needs Matching Funds to Meet Emergencies
The group needs $5,000 by the end of 2006 in order to catch up on unexpected bills and costs associated with this year's emergency care issues

The House Rabbit Society is trying to provide a warm and fuzzy holiday season, but the group needs $5,000 by the end of 2006 in order to catch up on unexpected bills and costs associated with this year's emergency care issues. This year the organization is getting financial help in the form of matching donations. The first $1,500 raised for the House Rabbit Society will be matched by a generous donor, the Sequin Corporation, a NYC jewelry design company. The next $1,000 in donations will be matched by Busy Bunny, maker of amazing rabbit toys. The final $2,500 in donations will be matched by RabbitCentral.com. RabbitCentral.com is a subsidiary of Internet commerce pioneer TheFerretStore.com.

According to the House Rabbit Society web site "The holidays are coming, but it might not be as festive this year at headquarters. We've seen fewer adoptions yet at the same time a higher number of emergencies and special care cases. That translates to more 'outgo' than 'in come.' We're hoping it won't have a drastic affect on our rescue and education efforts, but we're facing facts that we may need to pare down and we'll still simply be treading water rather than resolving some of the more pressing financial issues."

"There is no way to put a price on the importance of a group like The House Rabbit Society," said TheFerretStore.com co-founder Scott Sanfilippo. "They rescue countless rabbits every year and provide for many more. We have provided the House Rabbit Society feed and other care products for years. We are happy to match the last $2500 raised."

RabbitCentral.com has demonstrated an on-going commitment to supporting rabbit rescue and rabbit owner education throughout the U.S. RabbitCentral.com features everything but rabbits including a complete line of cages, hay, nutritional products, toys, chews and more. Manufacturers represented on RabbitCentral.com include Oxbow Hay Company, Peter's, Piccolo, Kaytee, Ware and Super Pet.

About the House Rabbit Society

The welfare of all rabbits is our primary consideration.

In line with our mission, we are against the exploitation of rabbits. Except for unique situations it is in the best interest of wild rabbits that human intervention be held to a minimum. Domestic rabbits are not the product of natural selection, but rather of human interference by means of breeding programs, and the product is a human-dependent animal which needs protection. It is therefore a responsibility that these animals be cared for in a manner appropriate to their needs.

Domestic rabbits are companion animals and should be afforded at least the same level of care and opportunity for longevity as commonly afforded to dogs and cats who live as human companions. Rabbits are intelligent, social animals who require mental stimulation, toys, exercise, environmental activity, and social interaction (from, as appropriate, people, other rabbits, or other animals).
