When my beloved Siamese Pinky was in failing health at age 20. I started volunteering at Second Chance Center for Animals in Flagstaff AZ. Spending most of my time grooming the adult cats, I rarely visited the kitten room, but when I did a odd looking grey kitten caught my eye. As a tiny kitten, with her siblings she would be literally bouncing off the walls of the isolation room. Her beautiful sable coat was long in some places, short in others and she was WILD. She would spend her time at the highest point in the room, hissing at all who came near. The rest of her litter had been adopted and poeple did not give her a second glance.
After Pinky crossed the Bridge in Mid-July, I took my husband to see the kitten named Selenium. I decided to bring her home on the spot and boy was she fun to catch and pack into a carrier. She was sequestered in our sunroom for two weeks. During that time I would bring her several small meals of wet food (a novelty for her) and clean her box, read or watch TV. The afternoon I took a nap on the futon and woke to find her curled up on my chest, I knew we had turned the corner.
I introduced her to the other cats slowly, by giving them human tuna in the sunroom while she watched, then came to nibble from her own plate. The plates got closer and closer and soon there was little reaction. Savannah and our huge male Daddy-O are the best of friends and she is certainly a live wire. She keeps us laughing with her constant antics.

What a great story! It's great to see how gentle encouragement can bring an animal out of it's shell and in to a family. It certainly sounds like you now have an entertainer in the home! I adore the name Fluffanella too, it's so cute!

The picture of Savannaha F. sitting straight up just cracks me up everytime I see it. Her medicinal tail is quite medicinal looking :-). She's a real beauty and her mama has a great sense of humor over in Critter Conversations.

What's the story on the doggie you are sharing time with in your picture?

If you're talking about mine, he's my little Leo (ok he's not that little but he seems to think so, maybe because I allegedly baby him!) and he is a "rescue" dog although he was rescued while he was still in the womb. His mom was owned by a teenager who was going to keep the puppies in a shed in November while he tried to sell them. A wonderful woman that worked with him bought the mom and because he was intent on making money on the pups, she offered to buy the unborn puppies too. He's a wonderful pit bull that has changed the minds of many people with pit perceptions. I love him! (Sorry Savanna Fluffanella, I didn't mean to hijack your post!)

LOL Her sitting up was when she heard her first snow plow. She and our newest, Beau Cheddar play together and lay in a cuddle puddle. They are always into something.
Nanners likes to sleep on my legs and when I am sitting down, I'll put my hand about a foot over her head she will jump up to pet herself on my hand. Her Medicinal Tail is quite handy for dusting behind the computer and under the shelves by the TV. Just toss the treats where the dusting needs to be done.
