Unfortunately Thundering Paws will not be able to come and disassemble the enclosure on the 25th so it is available to other groups who are interested.

If you would like to have this enclosure you MUST disassemble it after 12PM on the 25th and have it off the premises by the end of the day. Two people can easily have this down in just a few hours with a
ladder, socket wrenches, hand tools and and a cordless drill with nut
driver and screw driver attachment.

If you would like to volunteer to help Anne at Thundering Paws receive this enclosure please contact her at anne@thunderingpaws.org ASAP. She really needs this enclosure for a kitten sanctuary but is having trouble finding volunteers to take it apart due to the holiday week.

He is very meek and gentle. He has no food issues but I don't know how he reacts to other dogs or cats. He is going to the vet in 2 days to be evaluated and if healthy enough, he will soon be neutered. I have 6 rescue dogs of my own and I absolutely can't take in another; can anyone out there help?

She was taken to the vet and found to have feline leukemia. She currently is a healthy, happy and friendly kitten. I have a healthy cat at home that I cannot risk exposing to this contagious and fatal disease or I would be more than happy to keep her and make her a home until she succumbs to the disease. I am desperate to find rescue groups, or individuals who may cater to situations like these. I have emailed and called many that I can find online or from the vet without much success yet. I think she deserves as long as possible because she is so sweet and has such a great spirit and personality. If I can't find some resource, the only option for me is euthanasia. That breaks my heart. Please please if someone knows of anything I can do, I am willing to help in anyway I can. This kitten is too precious to just toss away because of this diagnosis. She could be loved and cared for until her true time comes. She is about six months old and a beautiful calico. I can try to get pictures to anyone interested.

Thanks for the help

I'd also like a cat enclosure for my personal cats as well as for several ferals I care for. I do wildliferehab also (birds), and am trying to finalize everything to obtain both state and federal licenses by the end of January. I have a small green house I've planned to modify for use as a small aviary for reconditioning prior to release. Really, I don't need anything very large, since I won't be accepting birds larger than Eurasion Collared Dove Size (except when emergent/urgent situations require me to retrieve/receive the bird and stabilize it for transport to vet or a rehabber who has more and larger facilities.

I could make my small green house work for an aviary if I must (and as I'd planned), but would consider other designs, and would certainly like to have 2 outdoor cat enclosures.........

(The one for the ferals would be more of a place big enough to establish safe shelter from rain, heat, or cold, and would have a feeding station away from the feeding quarters. It would not really be enclosed....;..)

Thanks,

So we've had to involve the media and get A LOT of community support to speak out against the city shelter i.e. BARC (BARC was/is REALLY, REALLY horrible. It's the shelter that Nathan Winograd mentioned at the BF conference when he said his visit to Houston was the worst 2 days of his life). There have been a lot of changes in the last few months, not all good though because again, a lot of political people are involved--doing things that may sound good in a Press Release, but nothing that is dropping the kill rate. There are no people involved there who truly want to save lives. So, it's still a struggle.

I guess you will have to see how receptive your city leaders are to the idea of change and stopping the killing first. I would definitely give them Nathan Winograd's book, Redemption. It is pretty much a step by step guide on how he, and other shelter directors, went to No Kill. Don't be suprised if you get a lot of push back from people saying No Kill can't be done---even from volunteers who say they want to help. I get this A LOT. I just keep reminding people that it CAN be done, because it IS being done all over the US and in Canada.

We got our 501(c)(3) as well, but I sort of wished that we hadn't now. The reason is that we just had elections for our Mayor, all city council and city controller this week. Being a 501, we are not allowed to advocate for a particular candidate. I did send questionnaires to all of the candidates regarding animal/BARC issues, and I posted their responses on our website. However, a lot of people have no idea how to get to no kill, so they didn't know what to look for in the questionnaire responses. They end up voting for any candidate who happens to mention BARC, whether their ideas will drive up the killing or not. I really would have liked to been able to tell people which candidates I believed would have helped us the most. And, I've found that most people don't really care about the tax write-off. I don't think one person has asked me for a tax receipt yet. It may give your group more "clout" but so would becoming a PAC. It depends on how you plan on proceeding down the road. Are you planning on being a rescue or an advocacy group or something else?

*Also be very, very sure that you absolutely, without a doubt, trust everyone on your board. We had problems right before we formed our 501 and I was SO glad these unexpected "issues" came up before we filed. It could have been a nightmare.

Good luck,

Does anyone have any experience in this type of an outreach program or have any suggestions to help get us started? We are filing as a non-profit corp so we will be able to pull in more donations, etc so the business end is pretty well worked out. Our goal now is to gain the trust of the shelter (they are somewhat resistant) and start the process of making the lives better for our little friends.

Re: Resources - They're there for you!!

Thank you! I appreciate your help.
