Updates on Kimba’s progress in its quest to find new life for Spanish pets

Updates on Kimba’s progress in its quest to find new life for Spanish pets

By Maria Jose Jaen-Jimenez, Adoption Coordinator, Kimba Shelter

Translated from Spanish by Michael Rodrigue, Best Friends Network Volunteer

The Kimba Shelter located Chiclana de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz, in the south of Spain, has rescued and found loving homes for hundreds of Spanish galgos (Spanish greyhounds) and other uniquely Spanish dogs. Thousands of these dogs are kept and mistreated by Spanish hunters. Spanish rescue groups face an uphill battle in working toward the day when these graceful, beautiful dogs can live in peace and well-being. - Editor

Today we have received word on Bribón, our little Viking Galgo, who in 2005 left for Norway with Marita, his new mother who loves him as if he were her own son. She knows how Bribón suffered, and the work and time that it took for the distrust of humans to lessen for our dear Bribón, whose name is now "Fønix".

We have been sent photos and videos so that we can enjoy seeing this beautiful Viking in that far away land where he has found a new life. Many thanks to his mother, Marita, and to GRIN (Greyhounds In Need), who helped make this adoption possible.

We have also received photos of one of our little abandoned kitties, Sisi, that we had at Kimba and who now through good luck has her own home in Cádiz. As you can see to the left, this precious one is happy and safe with a fantastic family.

In other news, three of the volunteers from Kimba recently headed off to Seville with five galgos: Gades, Pandora, Sombra, and Picon, all belonging to our shelter, and Cohete, another galgo who belonged to the protection shelter Adoptalo.com, to meet with the team that would transport them to their new homes in Holland.

We all left very early in the morning from Chiclana (Cádiz), to meet at the Plaza de España in Seville with people from other area shelters with their galgos. It was a very emotional farewell to our Andalusian galgos as well as to our friends from Holland. These people deserve much praise as they braved the risks of highway travel for thousands of kilometers to save 19 Spanish galgos.

It was a joyous moment because these dogs were off to meet their new families in Holland, yet we were all reduced to tears by the affection that we came to feel for these beautiful creatures.
