Oreo would love for you to be his new best friend. He is trying to find a new home with a loving family. He currently lives near Raleigh, NC. He loves adults and children and shows his love with lots of licks in the face. He would love to be your running partner and will not tire before you, he just keeps going. He would love to have another dog to run off his energy and plenty of room to run if possible. He loves being around people and dogs so much that he will jump up to 6 feet to go visit friends. He is house and crate trained but has been an outdoor dog while owners are away and indoor when home. He can sit, down, stay, and heel on leash and is up to date with vaccines. We are trying to save Spike. He is a Chihuahua mix that Eddie found as a stray friday night at work. Thru a lot of dedication to find his owners, not only did I discover that he was intentionally dumped, but I also learned that he was a Hurricane Katrina victim. We immediately decided not to dump Spike off to the next family, as he'd been traumatized enough. We took him to our vet and had him checked out. I got the call this morning that he tested positive for heartworm. It can cause congestive heart failure in dogs, amongst other things. This little guy is a survivor. He was able to brave the streets of Portland for over 2 weeks, traveling from Beaverton to NE Portland. He was also brave enough to survive a horrible natural disaster. He has warmed his way into our hearts very quickly, and has made himself a home with our other 2 dogs. The financial aspect is a little hard, as the treatment is going to run us about $750. Please help if at all possible! Thanks everyone!

My name is Janette Nevils and I'm writing on behalf of the Board of Directors of KittyKind. We are an all volunteer, no kill, cat shelter and rescue group in New York City. For more information about us, please visit our website at www.kittykind.org. KittyKind has gone through a complete transition in the past year. The President was voted out of the organization. The new Board of Directors is full of ideas, hope, and excitement and we are ready to move KittyKind to the next level. However, we have inherited some very problematic situations, one in-particular is why I'm writing today.

The old President had a hard time saying no to people, which resulted in her creating a sanctuary at her home of cats that are in most shelters considered not "adoptable". These are KittyKind cats, they are not hers, so when she was asked to leave KittyKind, we as an organization are still responsible for them, thus have paid for their comfort and care while slowly removing the cats from her home. We have an emergency situation that has arisen, this woman is now being evicted from her apartment. KittyKind is asking for any assistance anyone could possibly provide to help alleviate us of this situation.

There are currently 39 cats remaining in her home. Our ultimate goal is to find new, permanent homes for these cats. We are looking for shelters, groups, or indviduals who would be able to take in one or more of the cats. Most of the cats are socialized to some degree, but they do range in personality and temperament from tame to feral. The vast majority of them are FeLV+. They are all spayed and neutered.

I estimate they are 3~4 weeks of age and I am bottle feeding them about every 6~8 hours.

I have a 8 month old baby and a dog and I am allergic to cats and get itchy........and not comfortable handling stray kittens and a baby at the same time.

Emergency!! - RIGHT NOW! - SUMMERVILLE, GA - Mother PB and newborns to be euthanized any time, all ready euthed dad!

Chattooga..daddy is dead already...mama went into labor when they were about to kill her

she is now in labor and she and her babies can be killed anytime...so sad!

There is a Pit bull mother and newborn babies (she's still delivering) at Chattooga County AC in Summerville, GA. Mother was literally about to be put down but became so stressed she went into labor, so they're waiting. BUT, as soon as she is done, the mom and pups can be euthanized at any time.

The daddy ( a beautiful red pit) was all ready euthanized, so this little family has all ready suffered so much today. PLEASE HELP if you can.

Working Together For All Animals : Dog-Friendly Chow Mix Seeks Forever Home – Please Cross-Post!

Smokey is an active and healthy 6-years-young Chow/Shepherd/Rotti mix. He has been with 11th Hour Rescue for over 2 years. He is currently at our shelter, but is occasionally fostered by a volunteer with 6 other dogs. If you want a buddy for your dogs, Smokey’s the best! Smokey LOVES other dogs (he knows to be gentle with smaller ones) and is great with his foster parents, however he has “guarding issues”. Trying to “protect” his home and owners has lead to biting. He has NEVER gone after his fosterers and trusts them 100%. His caregiver can take food away from him; check his teeth, paws, mouth; give him a bath…pretty much handle him however they want. He is also crate-trained and housebroken.

Smokey is a “big puppy” who lives to play with and meet new dogs. Yard time is fun time for Smokey! His wariness about trusting people stems from low self-esteem and past abandonment. He does not show outwardly aggressive body language when nervous, which means that he would require a dog savvy home. Once Smokey bonds with you, he would never go after you – and he bonds quickly. His forever family would increase his confidence and trust as a “nervous aggression” dog. Someone who knows when company visits, he must be crated or put in another room to avoid the “guarding” behavior.

He is a great dog that deserves a chance at having a loving home, because he has so much love and loyalty to give to you!

Smokey is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

In a recent news article on Projo.com , they discuss Yugo, an American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found burned on the side of the highway in Eas Providence. He was taken to the East Providence Animal Contol Center and given veterinary treatment, but they need funds to help pay for his care, as well as leads as to where he came from.

I am in desperate need of a foster OR forever home for Maggie. She has been living alone in an apartment for almost a year. Someone comes and feeds and walks her twice a day and that is it. No companionship, not even television or radio. She was abandoned by a man who was severely
depressed and put his social life before anything. He ended up in a psyche ward and now jail for DUI. By all appearances Maggie has never been to the vet. Her landlord hasn't rented the apartment because Maggie is there, she comes and walks her and feeds her twice a day. She can't live with other dogs and the landlord has two. Maggie has had zero socialization and now a year of no regular companionship.

A wonderful dog trainer, Sean Murphy, came with me to meet her on 12/24/08. He gave her a full temperament evaluation. She is SO much better than I intitially thought. A really trainable dog with a very sweet disposition. Her problems stem from her lack of socialization. She is an older girl, not sure how old, maybe 8ish? She will be getting much needed vet care. Her gums bleed and she has sores on her feet. I'm sure she hasn’t seen a vaccine in years. My hope is that she will be able to go right into foster or forever home right after vet which will probably be 1/14/09. But after weeks of trying she has no home to go to and will go back to the apartment. Starting training with her will be difficult as there won't be anyone with her to keep up her training. Some people have volunteered to spend time with her as they are able. She is currently in Concord, Mass. I am in Boston. I am also accepting donations for all of her care. Maggie will be euthanized if brought to a shelter as she needs a lot of care and rehabilitation as both the landlord and I have been in touch with a few different ones, so it’s up to us to help her. In February, 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Toxicology Program (NTP), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) agreed to begin phasing out animal testing and instead pursue animal-free methods to evaluate the safety of new drugs and chemicals. In June 2007 the National Research Council (NRC) completed a report, which concluded that ending reliance on animal tests would actually allow scientists to more accurately and reliably predict health risks.

Let’s hope other agencies and drug companies follow this lead and help phase out animal testing in the near future.

Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue is requesting your assitance in getting Emmaline, Mama and her babies from their foster/temp foster homes to their approved adoptor and permanent foster homes.

Emmaline lived as an outside dog 24/7 before she came into foster.
She has learned how to live indoors like a real pampered pet and now is her time to go to her new home and live out the rest of her days living the good life.

We also have a nursing mama Beagle (Sweet Pea) and her 5 babies that have to change foster homes. They will be moving in a crate, the crate will be carried from one car to another. We will get the dimensions of the crate soon.

Mama only has to get out of the crate every 4 hours or so, we are trying to keep the risk of her picking up something to a minimum. She will be traveling with anti-bacterial wipes.
She HAS to be wiped down on her legs and paws BEFORE she gets into the crate with the babies.

Harry, What can we say about Harry, I love the boys. He came from MI.
Went into boarding in PA since his time was up in his shelter and has been sitting there very patiently waiting for his turn. Now is his time to get into a foster home and begin knowing what the good life is.

As usual, ALL legs are f-le-x-i-b-l-e.

If you are in between stops, but willing to help, email us with your location and we'll discuss the possibilities of rewriting the run sheet to accomodate you.

Also, you all are out there driving and know your roads better than we do. If you need extra time added to the leg, please let us know when you volunteer and we can tweak the times to account for construction and high traffic areas.

Lady is an older woman of about 6 - 8 years. It's hard to tell because someone pulled ALL of her teeth!

Her head is slightly deformed from being kicked or beaten as well. You'd think she would hate the world. Nope...she's a saint with 4 legs.

She smiled all the way to the vet. She smiled while getting her exam and her shots and then smiled all the way back to the shelter. She is just happy all the time.

Lady loves other dogs, but not cats so much. She's small -- only 35 - pounds and won't take up much space.

Lady is the most adorable dog I've seen in years and she is rotting in a shelter because no one wants her.

She's not in danger of being euthed (YET) but she isn't doing well either. Her feet are pink in these photos because she dug so hard at the fence
trying to get out that she tore her pads and nails.

Lady is a dog who has known only the worst in people and yet only wants to show you how much she loves. She has a far bigger heart than any human she has known.

Lady deserves a soft couch and loving arms to make up for all her years of pain and fear. She doesn't deserve to rot in a shelter while people pass her by because of her breed, her age and or her looks.

If you know of anyone who would like a gentle dog who happens to be a pit bull and an ambassador for the breed (she'd make great therapy dog) please please contact the Providence Volunteer Services for Animals and give Lady the chance she deserves.

Pet Health Issues : A Walk For A Cure

I am writing to ask your assistance in a great cause! Luke "Big Dog" Robinson lost his dog, Malcom, to bone cancer. Big Dog is about to embark on a 2000 mile journey with his two dogs, Murphy and Hudson, from Austin to Boston in an effort to raise funds to fund the first ever nationwide epidemiological canine cancer study managed by the Animal Cancer Foundation.

PIKEYPikey is a 2-year-old girl who loves to munch on peoples toes, cuddle, and try to eat almost all human food. She is a light mottled color:

POGO is a male just over a year old. He is very big compared to the girls, and can jump to 3 feet. He has a very quiet, playful demeanor. He is all warm brown colors:

PANDORA is under 6 months old and probably male. He is in adolescent hugeness and is an endless ball of energy and love. He is almost all white with blue/red eyes:
