As many of you already know, families are turning their pets over to shelters in record numbers due to the fact they can no longer afford to feed them due to job loss, etc.

We will be holding a Four Legged Food Drive here in Pittsburgh and are looking for volunteers. This food drive will benefit local food banks and programs that will distribute the food to local families in need so that they can keep their pets in their homes and out of the shelters.

Volunteers Needed:

1. People willing to spend a few hours outside of a local supermarket or petfood store. You will hand out a flyer letting people know what we are collecting and why to shoppers as they enter the store. Hopefully they will make a purchase and leave it with us on the way out.

2. People with trucks/vans/SUVs to help transport the food at the end of the day to the food banks accepting it.

If you can spare a few hours to help animals please contact:
pitachic@verizon.net

Thanks!

I spent 4 hours at our local Petco, me and Raggedy Ann, my meet & greet dog.  We had a great time meeting people and their animals!  And an even greater time when those people came back and put donated bags and cans of dog & cat food!  Raggedy Ann is very social and a total people lover. She is all things to all people. (I had 6 offers of adoption for her!) We collected a lot of food for this cause and if it helps keep even one animal from having to leave it's family and go into a shelter, I am proud to be a part of it. It was a labor of love. Here is a picture of her when she was several years younger, but she is still a beauty.  Hoping Sherry got a good picture at the Petco.
