Transport needed for mom dog and her 5 newborn (approx.1 week old) pups. To keep her calm and ensure that she continues nursing her pups, she must travel without any other animals except for the pups. It would also be good if transporters have experience bottle-feeding newborn pups in the event the mom stops nursing them. Need a size 4 or 5 crate. Would like to do this trip in no more than 2 legs if possible, to minimize stress on dogs.

I LEARNED OF BUD FROM A FELLOW RESCUE CONTACT. IN MARCH, BUD ABNEY 67 YRS OLD. OF MAYWOOD, MISSOURI LOST EVERYTHING IN A MASSIVE FIRE..HE IS HEARTBROKEN BY THE LOSS OF HIS BELOVED TIMBR, A DOG WHO CAME TO HIM SIX YEARS AGO. TIMBR WAS EVERYTHING TO BUD. WHILE WE CAN'T BRING BACK HIS BELOVED DOG, WE CAN HELP HIM. SOME OF BUD'S FARM ANIMALS SURVIVED AND WHILE BUD IS LIVING WITH HIS SISTER IN QUINCY, IL HE DOES RETURN EVERY DAY TO FEED HIS SHEEP AND FOWL. BUD DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE. I was contacted about a transport need from Arlington, TX to Wisonsin. Several of the legs have been covered; I have signed up for the Arlington to McAlester, OK route. If any of you in the MO area know any one along this route that could help it would be most appreciated. Here is the information as I have it.

I just went there yesterday, the young puppies were cleaner, but the older ones that havent sold were cheaper, and in different kinds of cages, and were not as clean. It was strange they make you sign in, and i was talking to a few customers, and the staff kept a keen eye on me the whole time. I was giving a lady some true advice on papillons and they didnt like it i guess... They claim to come from reputable breeders, but i still don't trust it. We should probably look into this a little more.

this poodle is in the shelter and is in need of alot of medical help, she is believed to be 8ys old, female, spayed, very sweet. the shelter does not have the funds to continue her medical care and unless she would be able to find a rescue or a permanent home she will have to be euthanized. she is diabetic, cushings, hypothyroidism, diabetes, blind and bald, 5lbs underwieght.
i have contacted best friends and am looking into grants to get some funds for medical care but she must be able to be adopted or find a rescue to take her.
if there is anyone who can help please let me know

Dog Lovers Nationwide Raise Funds to Rescue 56 Dogs From Puppy Mill
Dogs to Arrive at Shelter Tomorrow

Denver, CO—Animal advocacy groups raised more than $14,000 this week to rescue dogs from a puppy mill that is liquidating. “Breeder” dogs who have spent their entire lives in small wire cages in a windowless building at the Prairie Bark Kennel (PBK) in Denver were rescued from forced breeding cycles and now have a chance to be adopted into loving homes.

PBK confined more than 250 dogs in small kennels more than 23 hours per day. On Wednesday, May 6, animal advocates asked PBK’s owners to relinquish some of the animals to good homes, but they refused. Instead, PBK loaded the dogs onto a tractor trailer and shipped them nearly 1,000 miles to a “total dispersal auction” in Wheaton, MO, to sell to other breeders to repeat the cycle of impregnation and breeding.

Volunteers with Last Chance for Animals (LCA) attended the auction on Friday May 8, and with the help of Rocky Mountain Animal Defense’s (RMAD) fundraising, rescued 56 purebred dogs. LCA volunteer Kent Sarff from Louviers, CO, remarked: “We didn’t see a dog auction yesterday. We saw a livestock auction. Most people would be shocked to learn the truth behind these purebreds. The business is brutal—it’s not about the dogs’ welfare; it’s just about making money.”

Sarff witnessed terrified animals whom Southwest Auction Service’s auctioneer presented with descriptions such as “anal hernia,” “evidence of C-section,” “leg broken in the past.” But injuries were dismissed, Sarff said, provided the dogs lacked genetic problems that could affect their ability to produce valuable offspring. Several blind female pugs were brought out, and although one was missing an eye, the auctioneer assured buyers that they all still made great “whelpers.”

Volunteers understood that any unpurchased dogs would be discarded or destroyed, so they ensured that all were claimed. Undercover photos and video of the auction will be made available.

Rescuers obtained veterinary care and vaccinations for the dogs, ages 1-9, who will return to Colorado tonight and be brought to the Dumb Friends League tomorrow morning for adoption to the public and breed-specific rescue groups. Photo opportunities abound:

Prairie Bark Kennels (PBK) of Denver looks like it will be CLOSING.

A notorious puppy mill just west of downtown, PBK is getting rid of over 200 (!!) breeding dogs.

There are many details, which will be in the upcoming RMAD eNews.

The bottom line: the dogs are being sent to auction in Missouri. There is a key group of incredibly experienced dog rescue people – in the open, not under cover – who want to buy as many of these dogs as possible (affordable). The likelihood is that these folks will be able to buy the “spent” dogs, the ones that will be more or less discarded, the “cheapest” of the lot.

This is happening by THIS FRIDAY (5/8).

We need to know how much money we have for these dogs.

There are two ways to donate: send a check to “RMAD-PBK dogs” (address below). Please reply to this email to let me know how much you are donating, in case the check is delayed in the mail. Send it TODAY if at all possible.

Or make a donation by credit card by calling the office any time, day or night. If you get voice mail, pressing “1” gets you past the message and right to the beep. I’m the only one who picks up the voice mail.

Smokey is an active and healthy 6-years-young Chow/Shepherd/Rotti mix. He has been with 11th Hour Rescue for over 2 years. He is currently at our shelter, but is occasionally fostered by a volunteer with 6 other dogs. If you want a buddy for your dogs, Smokey’s the best! Smokey LOVES other dogs (he knows to be gentle with smaller ones) and is great with his foster parents, however he has “guarding issues”. Trying to “protect” his home and owners has lead to biting. He has NEVER gone after his fosterers and trusts them 100%. His caregiver can take food away from him; check his teeth, paws, mouth; give him a bath…pretty much handle him however they want. He is also crate-trained and housebroken.

Smokey is a “big puppy” who lives to play with and meet new dogs. Yard time is fun time for Smokey! His wariness about trusting people stems from low self-esteem and past abandonment. He does not show outwardly aggressive body language when nervous, which means that he would require a dog savvy home. Once Smokey bonds with you, he would never go after you – and he bonds quickly. His forever family would increase his confidence and trust as a “nervous aggression” dog. Someone who knows when company visits, he must be crated or put in another room to avoid the “guarding” behavior.

He is a great dog that deserves a chance at having a loving home, because he has so much love and loyalty to give to you!

Smokey is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

Off of Mid-Rivers, in the Toys R Us strip mall, one of the previously vacant stores now has a plastic sign that simply states "PUPPIES". The puppies range from $700 and up. Not sure if they're puppy mill puppies or not, but wanted to raise awareness.

Perhaps we should investigate further? I went in and the place was clean (more so than Pampered Pets) but I'm very curious where the dogs come from.
