Collin, somewhat named after the street he was roaming in, was just caught this evening, Wed 11/11/09. Cat rescuers and dog rescues were trying to find a way to catch him, but because he would turn his head, people were scared he was going to bite, so nobody ever caught him. I was contacted this afternoon about him and went there tonight pretty much believing I was going to get bit, but at least the dog would be safe. Collin did not try to bite at all. He did turn his head at one point, but when you have your mind set that your going to get this dog in your car, that's all your destined to do.

Collin is in need of rescue. He is a Chow/Shephard mix, pretty young and wags his tail at everything, even other dogs. Since I just got him tonight and took him straight to the vet, he has not been temp tested with other dogs, cats, or kids. But as I said, he wags his tail when a dog is around and one man walked right past Collin with his dog in Collins face and he didn't do anything but wag.

He is NOT neutered or vaccinated. If we can raise funds, that can be done. He only has until Friday to find rescue, otherwise he will have to go to the SPCA. That is something I don't do, but I was only going to catch the dog, not keep him.

If anyone would like to sponsor his vetting, that would make it easier for a rescue to take him in or for us to take him into rescue, please contact Susan at prflrescue@aol.com. He is in my name at the vets office, so you can also call the vets office and donate there towards his care--410-526-7500. I told them to heartworm/lyme test him, do a fecal, pick the rest of the ticks off of him--20 were taken off tonight. Plus, he's costing for boarding.

Lost dog - Charlie - Dundalk area

Charlie has been missing since Nov 12th around 8pm.

We believe he should be in the Dundalk area, possibly near the city line also.

He is a small brown dog with white fur on his stomach, chest & top of paws.

He has allergies in his brown eyes that makes them runny.

He has large ears and one inverted testicle.

Sometimes he develops a limp in his front leg.

One of the dogs in our rescue got out of her foster home's yard today and we are worried sick. We already have Dogs Finding Dogs out there to try and track her but need to get the word out.

Please, if anyone has seen this dog - a female white pit bull with brown spots, let us know. Coco was lost off of Aquahart Rd in Glen Burnie today when she got out of her foster home's yard (wind blew the gate open). She is microchipped and was wearing a collar with a rabies tag and microchip tag. She is about a year and a half old and weighs about 35-40 lbs. She is VERY sweet and loves other dogs. Hello. I live in Maryland, near Washington, DC. I took in an outdoor cat that we have been taking care of for 6 months on our upstairs deck and he tested positive for FIV.

I have two adopted daughters (single adoptive mom) and their needs come first in terms of where my funds go.

Having said that, this little boy is in one of my daughter's room for the moment. He has been there for a week. He has been neutered, was given his rabies and distemper shots. He was given Advantage Multi and Dorontol (?) for deworming possibility. He has been clipped and has a soft, shiny coat. He uses his new litter well. He looked good on his general exam. He is a small tuxedo, 2-3 years old, with a pleasant personality. He is a talker and likes to cuddle up close and is very grateful to be inside. He is learning how to play. As I mentioned, he tested positive for FIV. I will travel if need be to place him and donate these treatments as my gift to the family that welcomes him.

Can you assist by providing some links for placement? It is not fair to him to keep him in this small room. Time is of the essence as he will soon want out and our cats want in. They have cut a square in the rug next to the bedroom door but we have been careful so far.

We lost our dog, Sushi (pictured), in Baltimore City near Patterson Park on 10/7/09. She is a black pit bull mix with a white chest and chipped tongue. She is about knee height and 50 lbs. This boy came in just a short time ago with obvious eye problems. Our vet thinks he may have had some sort of head trauma. He is a stray so we have no information on him at all. He can be released to rescue right away due to his medical issues however the receiving rescue must understand that if an owner comes forward within 72 hours we would need to get the dog back (the owner would be required to cover all expenses incurred by the rescue before getting the dog back)

Macie - Look at her - how can you not help?

Macie is skin over bones, weighing only 30 lbs, between 2-3years old.

She had no objections to me pulling on her ears, tail and paws. She was very tolerant while I checked her over and discovered she had a whale of fleas. After taking her out for a walk, which she did very well on the leash, we became friends and she decided it was much nicer sitting by my side.

As I walked a neutered male and a young female past her cage she was at first just curious, then became

a little aggressive, so there's hope with a gradual introduction to another dog she may do better. I can't

imagine what Macie has been through or for how long to get in the poor condition she is.

The fleas are gone, and after giving her a blanket in her kennel she is content.

Macie urgently needs help in getting on the road to being a healthy girl, something she won't find in the shelter.

Dutch -Gorgeous Lab- Slowing Dying of Lonliness - Baltimore County

This poor guy is desperate to get out of the kennel now.

He is becoming anxious in his small kennel - I hate hearing him crying for me each time I have to go past his kennel. Even though we walk each day and I spend time just sitting outside talking and stroking him, he needs to be with someone, he needs to have a yard he can exercise in, someone that would run or jog with him, he needs a sofa to snuggle up on with someone. If he isn't euthanized first he will die of loneliness for sure.

He will sit, down and stay on command. He has the most beautiful eyes and likes to be close to you. He doesn't appear to be dog aggressive with calmer dogs. He's already neutered. Please save Dutch from certain death - his time is running out.

On our walks I've discovered he really is an awesome guy. After getting rid of some of his energy, he sat quietly with me in the grass just relaxing, then got closer to me and just laid next to my side. He seems to do better with a "gentle leader" as opposed to just20a leash and collar. He is just starting to respond to his name change, sometimes!

4 cats left behind after owner was evicted ... need new home(s)

4 adult cats were abandoned in a one bedroom apartment after the owner was evicted. They were sent to a local VA shelter and left at the back of the room where no one would have seen them. Two of them were sick and no one knew. A compassionate and seasoned local rescuer by chance saw these cats and did not have the heart to just left them behind. She took them home and along with her rescue network, fund was raised for medical care and supplies for these 4 forgotten kitties.

We are looking for loving forever homes for these 4 kitties either as a group or in pair. Will consider individual adoption if we must but from what we know, these 4 cats are all they knew each other all their lives. It would be great if at least two of them can stay together at a new home.

Transportation will be provided. All healthy now, shots up-to-date. All spayed/neutered. All around 3 to 4 years. 2 females and 2 males. Pictures below.

She wrote a column today saying poor Michael Vick has been punished enough. I'm sorry, anyone who would do the things he did cannot be rehabilitated in a year or two. There is something seriously wrong with the man's wiring! He does not deserve the privilege of being a glorified, wealthy professional athlete who is supposed to be a role model. I don't get why people don't get it. Thank God he's not a Raven.

Hi!

Oh my! I joined the network and forums a while ago, but have not been visiting regularly.

I hope that you found help for this situation!

In general, since not all vets or organizations in this area accept, or know how to handle, cats that are not pets, it's best to think ahead about what you will need to have available. That way, you are not trapping cats and THEN discovering there isn't something to do with them.

If you're pretty experienced at trapping cats, there are a couple of groups in this area that would love to have you helping both to coach new folks and to perhaps do some trapping with their programs, for elderly people, or in situations where more than one or two people are needed (think: mass trapping). If a person were not very experienced with TNR, I would like to see them first learn about handling traps and the cats in them. This way, it is not so worrisome that either the people or the cats might be injured unintentionally. Sure, trapping is far from rocket science. Still, a lot of the folks I have known through the years, have found it a surprisingly scary thing, if they had not "rehearsed" using a trap or had a plan for what they'd do next. It's not much of a kindness to a cat to be captured, only to be denied a chance to see a vet and get care if it's sick or injured, and it's frustrating for all of the people who might help, when someone asks if we can help but they're already committed to an unplanned approach.

Thanks for caring about the cats. Again, I hope they are safe.

Please everyone, consider a donation to the groups that you think you would call if you got into a situation similar to this -- there are good feral cat groups in the DC metro area, who are getting much more desperate calls now, and you can be a part of helping them to help those situations without going bankrupt!

Help needed for stray mama cat and kitten

Hello,

We trapped a mother cat and kitten last night. We are looking for information on any local resources (PG/Montgomery/Howard county area) where we might be able to bring them for a reasonable cost to get them looked at. We realize we may have trapped them prematurely since the kitten may still be nursing and therefore may not be able to spay the mother and kitten is probably too young. I would release them; however, the kitten appears to have an eye infection. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
