In a story reported by WBOC, the Wicomico County Humane Society says it is now vaccinating all dogs against canine flu.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the canine flu, officially known as H3N8, has been fatal to dogs. The CDC says it is a relatively new cause of disease for dogs.

The Wicomico County Humane Society says it has been found in dogs in Washington, D.C., New Jersey and Delaware. Its vaccination program began in August, and so far no cases have been reported there.

"We're in a kennel situation, we get in so many dogs," said Human Society Director Linda Lugo. "We don't know what vaccines they've had, what they've been exposed to. So for the safety of all the dogs that come into this building--they're vaccinated."

The CDC says there is no evidence humans can be infected with the virus. However, the CDC says the virus was originally found in horses until spreading to dogs.

The CDC says it is monitoring the virus.
