Pets R Our World and Neuter Scooter Make Spay/Neuter Available to More People
This week, there was a big step forward in the world of animal welfare and in the direction of a day of no more homeless pets, in Houma, Louisiana. The mobile spay/neuter clinic, called Pets R Our World, is part of SpayMart, a nonprofit organization humane organization started in 1999, specifically to provide low cost Spay/Neuter assistance and adoption programs to the public. Recently, the mobile clinic has added the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter to its schedule.
In an article in the local paper, the Daily Comet, shelter manager Valerie Robinson was quoted as saying "It’s been years since the Terrebonne Animal Shelter had a low-cost program for local pet owners." The mobile clinic's first day at the shelter was September 28 and will be at the shelter every other week. The surgeries are offered at a discounted fee, made possible by a grant from PetSmart Charities. Appointments are required.
Spaymart also offers low-cost spay/neuter for community cats, through their Neuter Scooter program, with the goal of 2,000 spay/neuter surgeries for community cats, during the month of October, feral cat month.
