late in Jan 09 I stopped at a dumpter area that i usually don't stop at, because the one just down the road from me was being cleaned by convicts. I was about to leave when I happened to look through the chain link fencing and see a dirty dog laying in the mud at the edge of a puddle...it was about 28 degrees outside and there were no houses near by so I went to investigate...upon approach I realized that it was a very skinny, but VERY pregnant pitbull, she bearly had the strength to wag her tail...so I scooped her up and carried her to my car...I proceeded to feed her multiple meals a day to try and get ehr strong enough to have her pups and hoped all would make it...I named her Faith...her teeth appear to have been filed down and she has some scars, evidence that she was fought or used as a bait dog...she showed no aggression towards my two dogs, or may cats and we decided she would remain with us to be sure she is never discarded again, but that we would find the babies homes...on 2/7 she went into labor and had 8 happy healthy pups with appearly multiple fathers in the litter...on my step sons bed...lol....I dewormed the pups and gave them their shots on schedule...however I appearantly tracked home parvo when I went to schedule Faith's spay when they were 2 shot away from a full series....2 pups got sick, I lost one...of the remaining 7, 4 have found homes, and I still have 3 that need homes...I would love to be able to keep them all, but my house is unfortunately not big enough for 6 dogs and 3 cats and 3 humans...the three I have left are:

Orion: black lab/pit mix with white on his nose and chest...very cute sweet boy...nuetered and has rabies shot, full puppy shot series also completed

Temperence: buckskin pit/hound? mix...can be a little shy at first, loves to run and jump, would make a great agility prospect I think....full puppy shot series...is the rcovered pup, shows no ill effects from having been sick...not yet spayed as I had to cancel the appointment because they were just coming off quarenteen and the people who were going to do it are VERY difficult to get a hold of

Starla: brown pit/shep? mix with white on chest....CUDDLE BUG! she loves her belly rubbed, thinks she's a lap dog, and has already proven to be great with kids! also pup shot series complete but not spayed as above

wih winter coming I would like to find these pups a home ASAP because I hate having to keep them penned outside, but I just don't have the room for them...please contact me if you would like to meet one of them to give a home or would be willing to act as foster for them and help find them a home...

Re: November Events in Georgia

Yappy Hour Blue Jeans Ball and Silent Auction – Benefit for Coastal Pet Rescue – November 14 (Tybee Island)

You need patience, time and a book. Sounds weird, huh. On each of your three visits, put his food down and start out sitting about twenty feet away, with your back to him. You're no threat on his level and with your body turned away. The book, or a newspaper, is to give you something to do for 20-30 minutes while he eats and works up enough nerve to come up and sniff you. There's a good chance that once he sniffs you, he'll be your buddy. If not, keep it up a week and cut the distance to the food in half. Repeat until you're sitting next to his food. He'll gain trust because you're not trying to catch him. If it goes long enough, sit next to his food, facing him and hold out some choice pieces of meat. Takes the patience of Job, but usually works. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

He had been adopted out and she moved and he ran into the woods by her house and we have been trying to catch him for 3 months. He won't go in a trap...he would rather starve than go in the trap. We go to see him at least 3 times a day and he is excited and happy to see us, he waits for us at the usual times, but then he runs off once we get out of the car. We've tried hiding and trying to grab him, traps, tricking him, and nothing is working. I'm looking into borrowing a throwing net from out local animal control officer and we'll try that now that we can get with a few feet of him. Has anyone else had an experience like this and have any advice?

Also, We asked the vet about a med to put in his food, but there isn't really anything that is fast-acting enough so that we could track him through the woods and the same goes for a tranquilizer dart.

Thanks

I am looking for a good home for Gorgeous Gabriel. He was found in a church
campground, making Gabriel seem like the appropriate name. He is of mixed
Foxhound/Beagle heritage, about 4 years old, and, in need of a special
home. Once he trusts you, he is very sweet and seeks your attention.

He is also very funny and playful--he loves to play chase when he is
relaxed. He gets along well with other dogs, but, is frightened of men
he does not know, will bark and then hide behind the nearest person
there that he does know. Needless to say this characteristic does not
lend itself to adoption events and Gabriel must find his home through
another path.

I have been trying to place him since May. He is coming up on his sixth month being stuck in boarding! I know he will blossom with the right family. Please help Gabriel find his very own home!

If you can foster Gabriel, any medical care he needs will be covered. He is up-to-date on shots, neutered, and heartworm negative. Heartworm preventative will be provided to a foster home.

Re: November Events in Georgia

Good Mews “Spay-Ghetti and No-Balls” Fundraiser – November 10 - Atlanta

When her new family got her home, she got spooked when their inlaws drove up and she broke out of her collar and is now missing. She has been gone since Saturday, Oct. 24 around 3pm. She has returned on 3 separate occasions to the family's home, but they were unable to catch her. She is a friendly dog by nature, but is very scared right now, not knowing where she is and not having bonded to her new family yet. She was last seen around 11am Sunday, Oct. 25. She is not wearing a collar but is microchipped through 24 Hour Petwatch. Please help us get Layla home!
