If you are a fan of the Dog Whisperer here is your chance to see Cesar Millan live and help the animals of the Washington Humane Society. For every ticket sold through our exclusive ticket link for Cesar's live show at the Patriot Center on December 6th, $3 will be donated to WHS.

A towel and blanket drive is also being held at the Patriot Center beginning two hours before show time, which will benefit the Washington Humane Society. We need your help to keep our shelter dogs and cats warm, especially in the winter, as they wait for that special person to take them home.

Your generosity will make a big difference in the lives of our shelter animals. Please donate your used towels and or blankets when you come to the show. They can be any size and color, as long as they are good condition without holes.

When you think of the Washington Humane Society, you probably think of our animal sheltering facilities. And that we house homeless dogs and cats (and various other animals) and work to find loving homes for every one of them.

We do care for thousands of animals every year in our shelters, but we do so much more for the community and for our animals too!

Our animal cruelty investigators are on the streets every day (and sometimes, at night!) to rescue animals and bring the perpetrators of cruelty to justice. WHS's low-cost spay/neuter program strives to prevent the births of countless puppies and kittens who would be brought into a world where there are not enough homes. Animal assisted therapy programs bring people and homeless animals together, in hands-on activities, enriching the lives of human and animal alike. Everyone at WHS knows very well that without you, many of these programs could not have been implemented.

Hi, my name is Carrie and I have been fostering an FIV+ male tomcat named Thor. I've been given two final weeks to find him a home, or he will be put to sleep.

Thor is a five to six year old, gray and white striped tomcat. He has been neutered. Thor has had a rough life, and so has some scars and frostbite damage on his face and ears. Also,due to his rough life, he can be defensive if he feels threatened. But treated with care, Thor is a very sweet and loving cat, who loves to be petted. He is litter box trained.

I am not sure if he will get along well with other cats. I believe he would, but he has not been around other cats due to being FIV+. I live in Northern Utah, and if you can give him a home, even a temporary one, please contact me at kalestarfire7@yahoo.com

Hi, I am Duffy , a handsome shepherd mix. I have been here patiently waiting in my little kennel for seven long years. I have never lost hope, but I have to admit, my chances for my own forever home are looking a little dismal. I arrived at the shelter when I was a four month old pup and was adopted right away. But there was some trouble with my family and I ended up being returned to the shelter because they weren't treating me very well. That was when I was about 2 years old, and here I have sat ever since. I am now 9 years old and I am just wondering, how much longer do I have to wait? I have seen hundreds of friends come and go over these seven years, and I am just as handsome as they were (even more than some !) and have lots of personality. I am friendly and cheerful. Always up for my favorite games of tug of war and fetch. I know I am considered a mature adult now, but I have many great years ahead of me. I would be perfectly content to hang out with a family in their living room watching football, the news, maybe the dog whisperer or whatever they want really, their choice. I don't need a lot of exercise, but I do love leisurely walks, which I am very good at. I don't pull or chase after cats. I weigh about 50 lbs. Just the perfect size to cuddle up in one of those comfy dog beds I have heard about. I am healthy and affectionate and I really am begging for a chance at my own home and family. Lost and Found in DC : Lost: Newfoundland Allie - Foggy Bottom - DC

Alli went missing at 11pm on Jan 21st, in the foggy bottom/west end area of DC. She managed to free herself from the person walking her after she was spooked by someone/something behind a fence. She is a female newfoundland, who is black with a white spot on her chest. She is wearing a black nylon dog collar. She is very friendly, but can be spooked easily. She responds to her name if it is said nicely, but does not know any other commands. Since she is a little shy, it is good to crouch down and call her name if you see her. She was last spotted late the night she was lost on the grass near 25th and penn. ave. Little Bear is a male Corgi and black Lab mix. He is 1 year old, a little shy, good with other dogs, okay with most cats good with children. BUT NO CHICKENS FOR LITTLE BEAR! (I am sorry, I just think feathers are cool, so I want some of my own!) Owner surrender due to killing chickens and running deer.

Can anyone offer this boy a home? He sure doesn't deserve to die because he liked to chase chickens and deer! Please help this little fella!

Haley was brought to us w/ a shattered leg, photos are too gruesome to show online. The only way to save her life is to have her leg amputated. W/out $$ in the bank, we need to raise $$ to save her life, at least $250 is needed to get the surgery done now. She is currently on pain medication and antibiotics to control infection. She's very sweet and deserves a chance, please help us help Haley. Her time is limited as it's not fair to leave her here being in pain!

Animals in Need of Urgent Adoption : 2 Samoyeds in Washington County MD need home ASAP

I know of two, 2 yr old Samoyed dogs which are headed to the pound the end of this month unless they're adopted. I saw them when I delivered food to the family for Thanksgiving and they took my breath away (not bad for a cat person). If you aren't sure what they look like, go to the AKC site and check them out. These two (male is neutered, female isn't) were purchased for presents for children two years ago. Now the father has congestive heart failure, family is moving to a newer/smaller home which is pet restricted. They are desperate to find a loving home for their babies. Would prefer keeping them together, because they're from the same litter and have never been separated. They're shots are up-to-date, house trained, gentle, loyal, good with kids, well mannered, and beautiful!!!! Larry won't let me take them (we really couldn't have them in the house with the kitty which I rescued) and our yard isn't fenced for a dog -- never had one. The thought of these two going to the pound is making my holiday mood miserable -- so, I thought I'd share that with you (just like the old days). If you can help, or think of any helpful solution, or pass this along to any animal lovers on your list, I'd appreciate it. I've already tried two Vet's. two kennels, an ad in the paper (cuz owners can't afford that), the Samoyed rescue centers are all too far away, and beyond that, I'm as a loss.

Any assistance you can give would be appreciated.

Lilly Belle was first taken to a shelter in PA after her family was evicted and just LEFT her. She was adopted to a lady in Westminster, MD. in early August. The lady has fallen on hard times and has to move and can't take her along. Once, again, Lilly Belle has nowhere to go. She is now 8 yrs old. UTD, spayed, housebroke and gets along with other dogs. She has energy for her age. Can anyone give her a forever home? Thank you.

Sweet Beautiful HAZEL a 2 year old Pit mix She was brought to the shelter by her owner because "his son was not caring for the dog". They only owned her for a couple of months. The owner assured the shelter HAZEL is housetrained, likes the car, is well behaved and loves all women, men and children They also noted "Hazel is a very friendly and mellow dog and LOVES to fetch!" She is a very sweet, petite dog. She is low key and very friendly. She is very good on the leash and appears to be housetrained. She has beautiful eyes and a thick Shepherdish fur. She only weighs 40 lbs. Unfortunately we don't know how she is with cats but because she's so quiet and timid around other dogs.. we don't think she would be too much of a threat...

ROBINfemale pit mix, 3 yrs, 56 lbs

This GENTLE, SWEET Gal is going down because of NO SPACE at the city shelter... Please SAVE HER by adoptiong/fostering or sponsoring NOW!! She doesn't deserve to die!

ROBIN arrived at the shelter as a stray. This gal was so friendly and bouncy and enthusiastic on walks, but off leash she is gentle and not jumpy at all... she just wants to put her paws on your lap, stare at you and smile, and get her head and chest rubbed. Robin is a loving, wonderfully friendly lady who will make a great family dog. A real star. Unfortunately we don't know how she is with cats but she passed her behavior test with flying colors so she has a wonderful temperament. She weighs 56 pounds.

BUTTERfemale pit mix, 4 yrs, 61 lbs

Just look at this face!! and read the story of a girl named Butter--
Sweet Butter came into the shelter via police escort on 11/11/08. This gentle girl hopped right in and got a ride, thinking they must be taking her home. But no, sadly they took her instead to an overcrowded city shelter. Now her life is in grave danger, for there is no cage space left, and Butter has been there too long. Can you help by fostering or adopting her?
Butter has many fans at the shelter.

WHIFPHERmale english coonhound, 1 yr, 61 lbs

Have you ever seen such a unique coat? 14 month old Whifpher is really a sight-- and a nearly perfectly behaved animal to boot. Unlikesome of our southern hounds, Whifphe was an indoor pet, so is houstrained. He is also used to city-life.

Whifpher, once more. So, how did this handsome 14 month old English Coonhound end up at the Shelter? His owner is moving and can't take Whifpher with him. But he told us that Whifpher loves men, women and children, is obedient and housetrained. Whifpher weighs 61 pounds."

MARLONmale pit and hound mix, 2 yrs, 38 lbs emaciated!

Sweet, Starved 1 yr M Amstaff/Pit X - approx 38 lbs THIS SWEET SWEET Boy is going to be DUST unless you can commit to ADOPTING/FOSTERING or Sponsoring IMMEDIATELY!!!
2 year old MARLON was wandering the streets as a stray. They scooped him up and brought him to the Shelter. He was soooo thin ... very emaciated. But he hadn't been on the streets for long, because his nails were overgrown. That means that someone kept him confined, didn't walk him, and didn't feed him. The staff has been feeding him extra meals to fatten him up. All the while, he's proved a loving animal: great with people and fine with other dogs. He arrived weighing only 38 pounds and should weigh alot more. Although Marlon has been let down by humans, he's nevertheless sweet as sugar, well-behaved AND smart! He plays nicely, fetching a doll and returning it. He's happy to rest his head on your lap (to stay warm during this cold weather, and he probably knew about the treats in my pocket). Please consider this fine, affectionate dog!

RUSTYmale, amstaff mix, 1 yr, 45 lbs

Maybe the fellow didn't need his neck washed, but regardless Rusty licked it thoroughly. It wasn't a question of personal hygiene but of extraordinary affection. This 1-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier loves people and expresses himself wetly. He also enjoys playing with people, even strangers. He's friendly enough with dogs but likes people more.

Though he's easy to walk and doesn't tug hard on the lead, he's probably not obedience trained. But who cares, when he clearly has a heart of gold? But, he's little more than a pup and eager to please. He's learn your commands quickly if you'd give him a chance. Rusty has all shots, neutering and is fully vetted.

Currently, Rusty has demodectic mange mostly on his head. It is NON-CONTAGIOUS and is being treated with an inexpensive medication. Special bathing at home would speed up the healing. Baby, the adorable brindle Pit bull terrier mix, waits patiently, for someone to take him home. Maybe he senses that his time is running out. Unless some kind person discovers what a loving, loyal friend he'd be, his short life will end soon.

This 2-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix was found by police wandering the streets; they brought him peacefully to the shelter. He is very friendly with people and other dogs. He does pull on a leash somewhat and generally needs obedience training as do nearly all shelter dogs. However, he's young and eager to please so he'd make you an A+ student. He's medium size at 46 lb. So maybe Baby would be your ideal companion. Certainly, he'd be loyal and devoted to you. And give you lots of Baby Love!! FIDOmale, amstaff mix, 1-1/2 yrs, 53 lbs

Please help us save this sick boy-- he was found as a stray in Brooklyn. Someone cared enough to have him neutered, but not enough to reclaim him from the shelter. Life here has been hard on him, as he fell ill quickly. Nevertheless this boy tested well behaviorally and got all "A's" on his test. Though he took his test while sick, we have every reason to believe he will be good with kids, adults and other dogs.

He has a terrible cold, and the only thing that will help him recover is to get out of the building. He will be getting out-- we just want it to be through the FRONT door.

BAXTERmale basst hound and beagle mix, 11 months, 25 lbs

BAXTER, a basset hound mix, was rescued from certain death. He is 11 months old, about 25 lbs, and cute as can be! Baxter loves to play with toys, take walks, and romp around outside. He has a lot of puppy energy and spunk!

He is good with other dogs, and would do well with larger dogs to help keep his puppy behavior in check! We're thinking he'd be best with kids 10+, just in case he gets wound up. Excercise will curb that. We don't know about cats... my guess is, probably not a good idea!

We'd love to place him in an active home, but we need to do it quickly-- his adopter had to back out because of a medical emergency, and now he has nowhere to go!

Baxter is completely housebroken, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. He is heartworm tested negative as well. Email emily@emilygear.com IMMEDIATELY if you can offer Baxter a good, active furever home.

Meet 3 1/2 Year-old HAZEL.

Her previous owners were druggie and were fighting when the cops came. They were going to shot her when they saw she was a pit but neighbors intervened and begged for her life. Hazel was only 1 year-old at the time.

She has now been in a boarding kennel for 3 YEARS!!!!

Hazel gets along with dogs and cats and give lots of love.

Someone needs to adopt her – no more cages. She is fully vetted.

Bones has been living in a run/cage for the last two years with little hope of rescue. He lives in a shelter that is on an isolated back lot at JFK International Airport that gets NO foot- traffic. Despite his last two years in a cage he still has a very good, gentle and loving disposition. Unfor tunately, lately he is becoming more and more depressed and withdrawn, I guess he gave up on been rescued – and finding his own home. Please help before Bones becomes just another statistic.

Deuce was left behind in a housing change. Poor baby spent the first year of his life in a crate and needs some socialization. He is great with children and cats. He would prefer a calm canine friend if any. He bonds quickly to one owner, but doesn’t share his owner well. He likes all the attention and does his job in protecting his owner. He is a very sweet loveable big guy. He has his quirks, but is good natured. He does NOT like bicycles and 18 wheelers. But he LOVES water!!

He has been thru the Wilford Training Academy, NJ and they would gladly assist anyone adopting/fostering him. He is a good listener and needs someone to keep up with his training and let him be part of the pack, but will not let him take over as the leader. With all the time he spent in his crate, he views that as HIS space and does not like to share that space - that is his comfort zone.

He needs a home that understands the breed and has the patience to keep up with his training. We would prefer him to go to a home with no kids. His heart is definitely in the right place and he had LOTS of love to give.

Deuce is residing at the Wilford Academy but the organization sponsoring is out of funds and all fosters homes are full. Won’t you please help Deuce get a home in time for the holidays?

Sonya was rescued from CSU Long Beach in March, just before her campus home was demolished to make way for a new building. She is a total lovebug once she gets to know you, but is initially very shy. Gets along well with other cats; a home without dogs and small children would work out best for her. Sonya has acclimated easily to life indoors (see pic) and enjoys hanging out with her special person and receiving lots of pets and good butt scratches. Medical/dental/shots March 2008; spayed. This perfectly healthy and lovely girl needs a home. Watch her blossom under your care! Prefers women to men. Elegant grey & white tuxedo with jade green eyes, approx 10 lbs, 6-7 years old.
