All are obviously very loving, and according to the foster mom, are housebroken as well.

Jospeph: Joseph is extremely shy and sweet but nervous, and will need someone who will help bring him out of his shell.

Jonah: Jonah is very sweet and high energy, and will require an active lifestyle

Josephine and Judith: both are very sweet and mellow.

Posted by George DeGiovanni, Best Friends Network.

Photo is of Judith, one of the Coon Hounds in need of adoption.

Working together for Connecticut animals : MERIDEN: Funds needed for surgeries.

The Meriden Humane Society is a private, no-kill shelter that is supported entirely by donations. Jacobs had adopted the dog earlier from Break the Chains Pit Bull Rescue of Lenoir City. Jacobs has said it was accident that the dog was injured. He has said he had forgotten he had tied the bulldog to the back of his pickup truck when he drove away. The dog allegedly was dragged behind the truck for almost a mile.

What happened to another animal he adopted this guy is not suitable home for any pet!!!

The news of Boss got another animal rescuer worried. Joyce Price, of Athens, adopted out a Jack Russell Terrier named Eddie to Jacobs in December. After hearing about Boss, she called Jacobs to ask about Eddie. She said she was told he had given the dog away. Price said she had allegedly told Jacobs to give Eddie back if something changed and he could no longer care for the dog. She said since first inquiring about Eddie's condition, she has heard several conflicting stories. Price said she has contacted the McMinn County Humane Society about Eddie.

you can also contact the McMinn County Humane Society at 744-9548.

COURT DATE HAS CHANGED TO FRIDAY MAY 8TH MCMINN COUNTY COURT HOUSE 9 AM SUPPORT COME AND SUPPORT BOSS

Take Action : Dog-Friendly Chow Mix Seeks Forever Home (NJ) – Please Cross-Post!

Smokey is an active and healthy 6-years-young Chow/Shepherd/Rotti mix. He has been with 11th Hour Rescue for over 2 years. He is currently at our shelter, but is occasionally fostered by a volunteer with 6 other dogs. If you want a buddy for your dogs, Smokey’s the best! You can see a video of Smokey at: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11162966

Smokey LOVES other dogs (he knows to be gentle with smaller ones) and is great with his foster parents, however he has “guarding issues”. Trying to “protect” his home and owners has lead to biting. He has NEVER gone after his fosterers and trusts them 100%. His caregiver can take food away from him; check his teeth, paws, mouth; give him a bath…pretty much handle him however they want. He is also crate-trained and housebroken.

Smokey is a “big puppy” who lives to play with and meet new dogs. Yard time is fun time for Smokey! His wariness about trusting people stems from low self-esteem and past abandonment. He does not show outwardly aggressive body language when nervous, which means that he would require a dog savvy home. Once Smokey bonds with you, he would never go after you – and he bonds quickly. His forever family would increase his confidence and trust as a “nervous aggression” dog. Someone who knows when company visits, he must be crated or put in another room to avoid the “guarding” behavior.

He is a great dog that deserves a chance at having a loving home, because he has so much love and loyalty to give to you!

Smokey is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

Please contact his fosterer tammy.probst.smith@gmail.com for more info.

Working together for Connecticut animals : two steer looking for a home

To whom it may concern,

My wife, through her good heart, became the owner of two male calfs destined for the slaughterhouse this past summer. Dan and Nels were the products of small dairy farms in central Connecticut, near Hartford. She thought she had found a permanent home for them at a non-profit 4H farm in Bloomfield, CT, but was surprisingly informed in October that they had no room for her now steer going forward. Since that time they have lived at two other small farms in the area while we have attempted to place them in a permanent home. We are not in a position to keep them and are hopeful that you might either have room for them or be able to point us in the direction of someone who might give them a loving home. They are good boys, now about 8 months, healthy - one is a Guernsey and the other a Jersey - who have not been dehorned. So we sent the human to check things out.

When she arrived at the empty apartment below their house, she found a lovely little cat, in shock, with a severe leg wound (down to the bone). The human told the kids to get their mom, RIGHT AWAY. She told the mom that the cat, Smokey, would have to go the the emergency room or she wouldn't make it. The family, who didn't even have a carrier, wrapped Smokey in a towel, and prepared to head down the road. Our human ran back home and got one of our carriers, knowing that they could hurt Smokey even more by transporting her in a towel (not to mention the other safety issues).

We didn't hear anything for several days, and knowing that the family did not have much money, our human feared the worst. She ran into the family, and they told her that they had paid close to $800 to get Smokey stabilized. The next day they had brought her to a local vet at a pet megastore, recommended by the staff at the emergency hospital. However, the vet said the cat would need a $128 bandage change every day for at least 10 days. The family, tapped out by the emergency hospital, couldn't afford another $1200+ vet bill. The vet told them they would have no choice but to sign Smokey over.

The human was impressed that they had saved the cat, and wanted to see what she could do to help. She went to talk to the vet at pet megastore. He repeated what she had already heard. She offered to pay the $128 and have the cat signed over to her care, knowing that she could a) get a rescue to help or b) get the materials and treat the cat herself. She has lots of veterinary experience, and many friends in the medical and veterinary fields. The vet alluded to the fact that people who can't care for their animals properly probably shouldn't have them. The human didn't disagree, but said that this was a young, friendly, adoptable cat and she didn't want to see her put down. The vet and staff all said that they would never consider putting Smokey down. They said she would be treated and they would be able to adopt her out easily. The human reiterated her offer to take Smokey if there was ANY CHANCE that she would be put down, and they all assured her that would never happen.

About a week later, she ran into Smokey's family on the street again, and asked if they could drop our carrier on the porch. They said that the vet had kept the carrier when they dropped Smokey off. The next morning she called pet megastore and asked if she could pick the carrier up, and leave a number in case they needed help adopting Smokey out. The office manager told her to come down at her convenience.

Later that day, the human went in to pick up our carrier. She was told the vet would not release the carrier unless the cat's owner paid the bill. What? She asked to speak to the vet. He came out and told her there was no way she was getting the carrier back. She tried to explain that she had nothing to do with the neighbors. She didn't even know them by name until they came knocking at the door, knowing she was an animal lover. He took on a belligerent tone, and told her to get her neighbor to pay the bill. She tried to explain that the neighbor was a single mom with 2 kids, and that she was broke after the emergency clinic (and she HAD offered to work out a payment plan, but he wouldn't hear of it). He wasn't hearing it again. He said he didn't care if she didn't know them, or if she was trying to help, or if she was a rescuer, she wasn't getting the carrier back. He told her that her issue was with her neighbors, not him. Then he stormed off.

The human told the desk clerk that this was not done, and letters would be sent to the vet company and pet megastore powers that be. The desk clerk would not even give the human the name of the volatile vet.

Now, the human's issue is not the loss of the $25 carrier. She is astounded by the lack of professionalism of this vet, and his seemingly vindictive nature. She later discovered that he hadn't even let the children say goodbye to Smokey. She would like to send letters regarding this incident to the powers that be, but she is worried that he will actually retaliate against the little cat.

What do you think?

Working together for Connecticut animals : Dog Living Alone in Apartment for 1 year - Help!

I am in desperate need of a foster OR forever home for Maggie. She has been living alone in an apartment for almost a year. Someone comes and feeds and walks her twice a day and that is it. No companionship, not even television or radio. She was abandoned by a man who was severely
depressed and put his social life before anything. He ended up in a psyche ward and now jail for DUI. By all appearances Maggie has never been to the vet. Her landlord hasn't rented the apartment because Maggie is there, she comes and walks her and feeds her twice a day. She can't live with other dogs and the landlord has two. Maggie has had zero socialization and now a year of no regular companionship.

A wonderful dog trainer, Sean Murphy, came with me to meet her on 12/24/08. He gave her a full temperament evaluation. She is SO much better than I intitially thought. A really trainable dog with a very sweet disposition. Her problems stem from her lack of socialization. She is an older girl, not sure how old, maybe 8ish? She will be getting much needed vet care. Her gums bleed and she has sores on her feet. I'm sure she hasn’t seen a vaccine in years. My hope is that she will be able to go right into foster or forever home right after vet which will probably be 1/14/09. But after weeks of trying she has no home to go to and will go back to the apartment. Starting training with her will be difficult as there won't be anyone with her to keep up her training. Some people have volunteered to spend time with her as they are able. She is currently in Concord, Mass. I am in Boston. I am also accepting donations for all of her care. Maggie will be euthanized if brought to a shelter as she needs a lot of care and rehabilitation as both the landlord and I have been in touch with a few different ones, so it’s up to us to help her. She has suffered enough, she will get her happy ending. She is a 3 year old pit bull who has been in the pound for 8 months. She been there because of neighbor constantly calling the dog warden which caused her to receive total of 5 tickets. Only one of the tickets was actually valid because of a dog fight. But, the same neighbor has a law suit against me for 140 thousand dollars saying my daisy viciously attack her son on more then one occasion, the only bill she has is a 300.00 emergency bill, there were no stitches no scarring nothing, & that still to be determined if his own dog bit him. I appealled the disposal order & went to a hearing with the state of Ct. which took 6 months to get. my attorney gave great defense info. which was the truth. The town subpoena everyone except the dog warden that issued the tickets. My attorney subpoenaed her and her testimony was very positive for daisy because she is one of the main care takers of Daisy. We got word after 9 weeks that they still are considering of disposing her. The evidence they submitted to me was false information they stated she was issued a ticket on a date that couldn't be because she was in the pound also stated she had attacked another person which is also false. Taking this into consideration it's quite evident that they didn't really reveiw the transcript. Of couse we have appealed the decison & have requested an oral argument & the transcript. I've also requested & submitted a letter from a personal trainer who is willing to evaluate her at his establishment, not at the pound considering the stressful enviroment & lenght of time she has been there. However Daisy has now been moved to a smaller cage, has a injured tail for the 2nd time & scrateces all over her & i'm really not sure where to go with this. My attorney saids to take pictures but it just doesn't seem to be fair that she is being treated this way. She is really a loving & sweet dog. Yes she has some dog aggression but I'm willing to have her rehabilated. What can I do or where do I go to get her treated better while she is in the pound. The main dog warden dislilkes me & Daisy she refers to us as the enemy, so I've been told. If anyone can help me with this situation I would appreciate it. My heart is breaking to see her in this situtation for so long.

Thankyou,

Patty

Working together for Connecticut animals : daisy

I've been in the process of fighting for my daisy's life. This beautiful grey and white tuxedo (green eyes) desperately needs a foster or permanent home. She is currently boarding at the Cat Clinic in Costa Mesa, CA, but her boarding reservation ends in mid December and I cannot afford to continue boarding her elsewhere. She is a complete cuddlebug once she gets to know you, but is very shy initially. Obviously, she does not show to her best advantage at the Cat Clinic. I am exploring other housing options for her, but I fear that I may have to have her euthanized if I can't find her another place to stay, on either a temporary or permanent basis.
