As of November 20, 1400 television and cable stations and 1250 radio stations across the country either will receive or will have already received a public service announcement from Best Friends urging the American public to make the humane decision this holiday season when it comes to obtaining their next pets.
The PSA features actor Rachelle Lefevre, a spokeswoman for our Puppies Aren’t Products campaign. Lefevre, of course, is the subject of another media blitz occurring today, one surrounding the release of “New Moon,” the sequel to the blockbuster “Twilight.” Lefevre stars as Victoria in the movie.
Coupled with the PSAs, New York City’s buses will, on November 26, begin sporting signs with Lefevre’s photo and the message: “Let a shelter dog steal your heart. Adopt. Don’t shop.”
“We want to make sure the American public understands the connection between pet stores and puppy mills, and that they’ll make the humane decision with that understanding when it comes to getting their next pet,” says Amber Ayers, senior marketing manager at Best Friends. “The humane decision is, of course, to adopt.”
Characteristic of her commitment to the campaign, Lefevre will today be calling public service directors at television stations in major cities across the country, urging them to air the PSA.
