PIG SANCTUARY IN British Columbia - MUST RELOCATE AND NEEDS HELP!!!!

The current location that houses "Hearts on Noses - A Mini Pig Sanctuary in Maple Ridge" is being SOLD and the sanctuary MUST relocate. They have found a their new home ... but are in dire need of various help for the relocation.

They must be out of their current location November 30^{th -} which doesn't leave a lot of time! If you are interested in assisting, please contact Janice Gillett via email at heartsonnoses@shaw.ca

Possession is November 12th and I will begin taking truck loads of materials and house hold stuff every day that I can.

November 15 , Art and Knapp’s thanks too Christine has offered us there five ton on that Sunday to move big stuff. We will need help as there is tons and tons of wood, gates, plywood , benches, tables on top of the regular house stuff. If you can help that day please send me an email.

November 21 and 22 is the first week-end the moving of animals must begin. If you have trucks, crates, flat decks, hi abs, people power, horse trailers please email me times, dates, a people count etc. Pigs will be loaded into horse trailers and transported out to the new place. They will have to remain housed in the trailers while there sheds are being loaded up here and transported to the new place.

We will need people to help there , to set houses down and move into the ideal spot .

This will be repeated if at all possible that day and on the 22 again if we have enough help.

It is imperative we get half done the first week-end as no way can all these animals be moved in two days.

November 28 and 29 is the last week-end . Again if you can help please email me STAT. If your trucks have hitches and you're not hauling a trailer for us already , let me know , I will rent flat decks so we can move some of these little houses onto them and get them out there too. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee please help me!!!

I am in desperate need of animal lovers in Vancouver BC. I am appalled by Pet Habitats continued selling of puppies and I am preparing to make a stand about it. I need all the help I can get when I encourage Pet Habitat to become a Puppy Friendly Pet Store and implement "puppy friendly" policies by refusing to sell puppies in their store.

Greetings Pet Lovers!

I own a Wonderful Gray and Brown Tabby, named Shatan. He is 8 years old and fixed male. He is also a indoor cat. My husband and I recently bought a Townhouse. That was a huge shock to Shatan as he had never seen stairs before. He has gotten over that shock and seem much happier and more active compared to when we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment. However he has been going after meat from our meals. This is new as he has never really been interested in human food before. He has been on a Iam weight and hair ball control food and has been for over 4 years. We only feed him twice a day about 1/2 cup each time but the minute that bowl is empty he will run to that dish if you are going near the Kitchen. He has also taken to chewing on plastic bags to get our attention and the will run to his food dish. I am not a fan of spanking my kitty and yelling at him or using a squrit bottle with water doesn't seem to make any difference. This behaviour has been going on for over a year and 1/2. I am getting worried that he will hurt himself from either the plastic or eating some that has spoiled out of the garbage.

Does anyone have any ideas?? I love my cat and don't want him to get hurt. Am hoping to find a safe way to correct this behaviour.

expecting another surrender of 60 cats in the next few weeks. This does not

Now let me explain why I am excited about KAT. Their moto is Community Benefity from Humane Management of Street Dogs. Wow, so not only are these people amazing animal lovers but they totally understand that if you teach compassion and love for animals then the whole community will grow. Also, if you treat animals for mange and other horrible things then people will take pride in these animals, diseases won't be spread and the quality of life will go up. Wonderful. I visited the centre today and just loved life. There is a family that lives in the Centre's grounds. The parents work in the centre and the 5 year old and 9 year old daughter and son go to school and then spend their nights with the dogs that are being rehabilitated in the centre. What a cool life. There are "lifers" at the centre like little Tara (star) who is the lovely dog who hops around like a pogo stick and Jango, a giant Himalayan who sustained 2 broken legs but gets on with life as if usual. There is a puggy little blind dog who I am in love with who is shy at first but then will love you to bits if you scratch her rump. She is amazing because when she plays with the other dogs they are completely submissive to her. She is blind but she still controls the pack. There are also dogs who will be adopted out because they were street dogs but they are too lovely to go back onto the street and they are good candidates for adoption. There are also ferals who will be treated for mange (or any condition they have), sterialized and then let loose in the area they were found.

There is such great work going on here buy only a handful of people. Its really, REALLY inspiring to see the beautiful work that is being done for these animals and this organization is only 5-ish years old. I recommend you check out the website as soon as you can. If you can donate any amount of money I know it will be appreciated. Even a little bit of money can go a long, long way in Nepal. These dogs (and three cats) would appreciate it more then you could know.

The centre is preparing for the winter rains so they are deseperately going to all the shops they can in a day and asking for cardboard boxes so the dogs have some kind of refuge in their kennels. It can get in the minus degrees here at night - for a dog with no fur because of mange, life can be quite cold.

I will be working primarily with the communications officer. My work with Best Friends has made me an expert with 'dog journalism' and the fact that I am a 24 year old girl means inherently I am a computer wiz. I will be spending time helping make their internet site better and reworking their templates so make them user friendly so newsletters (etc) can be written and sent out.

I am really excited about this opporunity. I have experienced so much in such a short time here in Nepal. Holy cow (literally in Nepal) I am a lucky girl.

Adoption Help! : Dog-Friendly Chow Mix Seeks Forever Home – Please Cross-Post!

Smokey is an active and healthy 6-years-young Chow/Shepherd/Rotti mix. He has been with 11th Hour Rescue for over 2 years. He is currently at our shelter, but is occasionally fostered by a volunteer with 6 other dogs. If you want a buddy for your dogs, Smokey’s the best! Smokey LOVES other dogs (he knows to be gentle with smaller ones) and is great with his foster parents, however he has “guarding issues”. Trying to “protect” his home and owners has lead to biting. He has NEVER gone after his fosterers and trusts them 100%. His caregiver can take food away from him; check his teeth, paws, mouth; give him a bath…pretty much handle him however they want. He is also crate-trained and housebroken.

Smokey is a “big puppy” who lives to play with and meet new dogs. Yard time is fun time for Smokey! His wariness about trusting people stems from low self-esteem and past abandonment. He does not show outwardly aggressive body language when nervous, which means that he would require a dog savvy home. Once Smokey bonds with you, he would never go after you – and he bonds quickly. His forever family would increase his confidence and trust as a “nervous aggression” dog. Someone who knows when company visits, he must be crated or put in another room to avoid the “guarding” behavior.

He is a great dog that deserves a chance at having a loving home, because he has so much love and loyalty to give to you!

Smokey is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

Two dogs, Carlita and Arthur, are in need of separate, caring foster homes for only 1-2 weeks while they recover from their injuries.

Carlita is a loving and sweet Shar Pei/ American Pit Bull Terrier mix, approximately 2 years old. Part of her tail was amputated and she needs a home all to herself, meaning, no other pets around the home while she recovers.

Arthur is a sweet and playful neutered white brindle American Staffordshire Terrier mix, approximately 2 years old. He was adopted last week and managed to jump the fence. He was hit by a car and suffered injury to his feet and head.

Rollie is a very scared little boy. He needs lots of love and attention so he will know that no one is going to hurt him. I'm afraid he's a little reluctant because of past experiences. Let's let him know that we are not all bad people and give him the chance to know a happy life.

Bones Staffordshire Bull Terrier Medium Adult Male URGENT! DIES THURSAY!

Poor bones. He is so skinny yet is still the happiest dog in the world. He appears to be a young dog but surprisingly, only has 4 teeth. He has a very short fighting crop which makes me suspicious that this poor boy may have been used as a bait dog.
Please help Bones. He's had a life of cruelty and neglect and deserves so much better .

After a sudden death during knee surgery, a local woman's dogs were left homeless when her husband fell suddenly ill and was incapacitated a week later. Although we have found placement for a couple, these remain, and are in dire need of extensive medical care. At her passing, the local woman was an animal lover, who, like many of us, had too many dogs than she had means for, but didn't want to see one starve when found stray on the road.

Most of these dogs need dentals, grooming, and some need to be altered, etc. We don't know how many are going to be HW positive when we test. I can't even begin to guess how much this is going to cost. Donations locally are slim to none, and we simply on't have the funds to take care of these babies, but could not stand to see them end up in the shelter. We have them in crates at this time because we don't have enough foster homes. We are waiting to receive a couple others that a local animal lover has been feeding out there. Many thanks to Commonwealth Animal Hospital for their help in helping us with their former client's dogs.

I've been trying to assist as best I can some of the shelters/rescues in Kentucky. The Kentucky shelters are OVERFLOWING with cat, kittens, dogs, and puppies. They are having an extremely difficult time finding fosters, adopters, and rescues to help. The rescues are all OVER capacity as well. They are overflowing due to a "hoarder" situation in which hundreds of animals were rescued, a puppy mill that was raided, and the saddest is they have been SWAMPED with owner turn in's due to TOUGH economic times. I only have minute but for those opposed to the seal Hunt there are a couple of things you can do.
There is a petiton you can sign by the International FUnd for Animal Welfare ifaw.org and you can also add your voice to a video that is being produced by the Aninmal Aliance of Canada urging the EU to ban the import of seal products. They are looking for 500 Canadians to participate. All you need to do is to go to their offices in Toronto next weekend and you get 10 seconds to say something.

HELP right NOW : Lost Dog - Toronto

Our family only had Penny for a month when she was lost in High Park on Sunday December 7th at 2pm. We know that she was hit by a car that night at 7pm on Bloor St. West at High Park Ave., but she kept running and we were told she didn't seem badly hurt.

Penny is a Louisiana hurricane survivor and lived through both Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike, and has been a stray for most of her life. We need to bring her home safely, the devastation that her loss has brought to our family is widespread and indescribable.

She is a 35lb spayed female, 11 months old. She looks like a Pointer, Hound cross and is very skinny. She has a white dappled coat with large apricot coloured patches with a white spot on top of her head. She has large floppy ears that are a solid apricot colour. She has an upside-down heart shape on her left side. She is very timid and frightens easily. She was wearing a jacket when she was lost. It was black with silver reflective lines, although when spotted she was no longer wearing it. She was last seen with her collar still on.

She has been seen many times since she was lost. She was most recently seen at Humberside and Indian Grove on the night of January 20th. She was alone and was not wearing her black jacket, but her collar was still on. We confirmed this sighting with a tracking dog and were able to pick up her trail immediately, but it ended suddenly.

We have also more recently heard that a teenaged boy has been seen recently walking a dog that matches Penny's physical description as well as her habits while walking on leash exactly, they walk on St. Clair Avenue West. He walks between Winona Drive and Arlington Avenue and crosses at Arlington. He must live in the area. He is walking between 10am and 1pm. We have put posters up all over the St. Clair area, but many are being taken down. We are starting to think that if someone has her, they do not plan to give her back. We urgently need our story to spread across Toronto, surely someone knows where Penny is.

We have gone well beyond the normal forms of trying to find Penny we've;
·Searched for over 150 hours
·Hand-delivered 2000 flyers
·Put up over 500 posters in 135 parks
·Hired a distribution company to deliver 15,000 flyers locally
·Used a tracking dog to confirm sightings
·Contacted every Vet in Toronto
·Contacted every Animal Shelter in Ontario
·Checked and posted on every lost dog website, repeatedly
·Placed ads in the Toronto Star and Bloor West Villager
·Got our story on 98.1fm
·Appeared on CP24 News
·Had the story featured in the Toronto Star
·Had the story in the Metro
·had the story in the Bloor West Villager
·Offered a $1000 reward for her safe return
·Offered an alternate reward - I will cook for whomever finds her once a week for a year (I am classically trained from George Brown and have cooked for TV's Iron Chef Morimoto)
